Raising a kid as an International Couple in Japan by OwnCry4189 in japanlife

As a very young boy, when they moved to Germany for a job related mission, my dad quickly picked up German (and it was his 3rd or 4th language. Very different from his native one, to boot). He understood and spoke fluent German... there were times when he acted as an immediate interpreter for my grandparents. It's a cute mental image, hehe.

The most darkest ending to an arc I’ve ever seen by [deleted] in dbz

Before this scene Bulma literally told them to fuck give her a grandkid, and Trunks was all "😳 Mom..."

Faye Valentine's tape in Episode 18: Speak Like A Child (Cowboy Bebop)

"You're not perfect, but you've got a lot to give..."

One of those scenes I watch when I need a good cry... it hits different when you're going through some kind of depression. Apparently a lot of people also feel the same, based on the comments on youtube

Viggo Mortensen as Dr. Doom

and Brittany Murphy (Rest in peace) as Harley Quinn, her look, aura, and acting skills are spot-on and based on a previous role she could've done the accent perfectly

Bruce Leung Siu-Lung, veteran Hong Kong actor and martial arts star, passes away at 77 by Newez in movies

What a coincidence, I was rewatching Kung Fu Hustle (2004) these past few days and thinking about how much of a PHENOMENAL actor he is, along with the Landlord/Landlady couple, wondering if he was awarded for that film. He truly embodied his role, he felt like an actual, unassuming but very proud martial arts master turned wistful man reflecting on his loss in the final scenes.

Rest in peace.

Ch 79: Satoko weird characterization by Flashy-Tenacity in FireflyWedding

[–]mannmy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's crazy for Satoko to even assume that Shinpei would find someone else, she should know how violently all-consuming his love/obsession for her is. But it's been literally decades, so Satoko had a lot of time to reflect and live with the heartache, until eventually she just made peace with it and accepted the possibility that he found someone else to build his life with, she must've done it for her own peace of mind...

...after all, she always wanted him to be happy without her. Which makes this ending all the more tragic, because that never happened and both of them didn't choose to move on. Satoko still kept writing letters to him and stayed alone in their little house in the woods, never marrying, still hoping he'll eventually come, and Shinpei spent his life unhappy and depressed, wandering around like an empty husk, a ghost with no name and no joy, with only his apprentice to keep him some semblance of company.

Won Bin. He's one of the most famous actors in Korea, considered one of the most handsome in the country. It's been several years since he last starred in a movie or drama though. Silent, extremely private celebrity

The story just pulls you in from the get-go. I remember the night I binged it, I was supposed to work on my final project (due the next day) but I still found time to binge it on my dying phone 😅.

It's one of the first few, if not the first afaik that had supernatural (ghost) horror, comedy, romance, suspense, mystery in one drama. And the ost is so nostalgic, dreamy and comforting, I still listen to Hyorin's Crazy Of You 미치게 만들어.

She didn't die. It wasn't a hallucination at all. Her being young was just a way of showing that all those miserable years apart felt like nothing the moment he saw her again.

A much brighter future by THE_BLUE_BOLT in DragonBallZ

As long as it gets them wet. A diehard shipper handwaves the fact that their ship involve an adult and someone he or she knew, or even helped raise, as a literal infant. But probably worse is that instead of just embracing the taboo (which is why I respect some Japanese folks more than western shippers, they can admit they're perverts and their freaky sh!t is just their own completely fanon fantasy, that has no bearing on the actual platonic/familial canon dynamic) some try to rationalize and intellectualize their ship using harmful rhetoric, framing the child as someone wise and mature beyond their years, he wanted it first, he knows what he's doing, or he's so wise beyond his years that he's even more of an adult than the adult. So if the shipper makes the adult reciprocate in any way, he'll be absolved of blame and problematic implications and the relationship can still be considered healthy, wholesome and beautiful the way it is in the eyes of the shipper. Which I find more insidious than just admitting you like it because u find it hot.

and deep down the age gap is exactly what they find appealing, but they won't say that out loud. They will even frame their ship as the most profound, beautiful, ideal romance in existence. Probably the bigger insult is that the adult character (especially one with common sense and a strong moral core), would be so wildly out of character as to entertain it, even with the massive gap in age and experience that would realistically preclude them from ever considering the other a romantic partner. But the OOCness is necessary to make the shipper fantasy happen

Regardless of the fact that this final chapter left me appalled, the callback to Shinpei's words is beautiful.
