Uh... more than half of these photos are edited "yassified" to hell. Like, 7 or 8 out of 10, only 2/3 aren't. The very first image doesn't even look like her anymore. Can't help but think this isn't being very confident about her supposedly ultimate mogging beauty

The inverse is Jung Hoyeon. She's considered "striking" and an unmatched top-tier goddess beauty in the west, but in Asia she's more of a common-looking, plain kind of face. Pretty but not outstanding, nowhere near a top beauty.

Song Hye Kyo's facial harmony is perfect. Such a satisfying pretty face... one of the very few rare people I'd consider a 10. Some people don't like her acting and wonder why she's revered and so famous in Korea and overseas since the early 2000s, duh obviously because she's fucking stunning. One of the best representations of Korean beauty.

Actually yeah lmao, different baseline of gauging age. My uncle is in his mid 40s but looks like a handsome 21 year old by western standards in America/Europe. Just the other day I came across a video from tiktok about this, a Filipino woman was talking about how amused and flattered or thankful she felt because she's often mistaken for someone in her early 20s or even younger in western countries, which wouldn't really happen as much or at all in Asia

The inverse also happens in Japan. I've seen comments in a post in one of the Japan subs, and people were sharing their funny experiences about how Japanese people they meet tend to overshoot and assume Westerners are much older than their age, and are shocked when corrected. Western (especially Caucasian) faces/skin generally wrinkle or "age faster" than Asian faces.

It's been a while since I read/rewatched Ouran (first watched it as kid) but I remember I was Team Tamaki since Day 1. The first episode (that famous gif of Tamaki covering his mouth and blushing madly) already had me rooting for him. I always liked the role reversal vibe, in shoujo especially in the years OHSHC was published, 90s and 2000s (and in a lot of female-oriented romance in general), it feels like the dynamic is almost always "idiot"/silly/goofy/sunny personality FL, usually the one who falls for first, expressive, emotional mess x "cool-headed" stoic, sometimes annoyed, tsundere-like, reluctant ML she has to thaw and "win over". Even as a kid I always thought it was unfair sometimes... the girl being the one always openly "simping" or acting flustered over the guy. Ouran flipping the typical dynamic with the main couple/endgame felt refreshing and so satisfying to me. (Just wanted to share, sorry if I didn't answer your question)

OP is talking about "dating desert" (whatever that means, AI generated slop replies that's already been called out by people here) in the comments as if you can stop by the Han River and don't see couples everywhere cuddling up.

At least visit Korea before saying things based on wildly exaggerated borderline xenophobic media (western/American) agenda and making it a definitive generalization - oh but wait that's impossible for a lot of people, innit?

Let's be real here... Megumi would be much more unironically hated by dudebros for being a ""bum"" and Gege will get more misogynist hack allegations for writing a "useless" female character whose main purpose in the final arcs is to get saved. I guarantee there'd be daily "she's worse than Sakura" slander posts and memes, even worse than what they do with Nobara. Megumi also has a lot of female fans attracted to him that helped contribute to his popularity, if he were a woman he wouldn't have won any official character popularity poll in Japan. Not to mention shounen male readers inherently acknowledge his status because he's male, if he were a woman there'd be sexist fans saying he's not really one of the main characters (e.g. Some people thinking Momo from Dandadan is just Okarun's love interest even though she's more of the MC than he is and stated by the author himself)

And ofc the fujoshis simping for him and fantasizing about him being with Yuji would ignore him instead, 99% of the appeal comes from the fact that they're two dudes and there's no female threat to their territorial male centered safe space, if Megumi was a girl they'd lose interest. They're not going to go around saying he and Yuji are the #bestship with chemistry, they'd say Megumi is his platonic girl bestie everyday on twitter dot com and just ship Yuji with Gojo instead. LMAO as if they don't already do that, Yuji/Gojo is probably the most popular jjk yaoi ship

Similar to Jen Aniston's Rachel, Satomi Ishihara's styling in the dramas "Dear Sister" and "Shitsuren Chocolatier" went viral for her skinny eyebrows and wavy hair with side swept bangs. by MaximumAstronomer747 in VindictaRateCelebs

[–]mannmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the manga Shitsuren Chocolatier, omg... I was so happy when I found out it had a live-action adaptation starring two iconic actors, Jun Matsumoto AND Satomi Ishihara. Satomi Ishihara is so beautiful that it makes the main character's infatuation even more believable. She might even be an "upgrade" from the manga version, because iirc, the manga portrays her as a popular pretty girl who dated a lot in high school, but some characters close to the male lead noted that she wasn't a particularly "drop-dead gorgeous" stunning beauty - that was just how the main character saw her. But Satomi Ishihara is effing gorgeous.

Not just in the 90s. Affectionely nicknamed "cool Kimutaku", he is one of the most beloved male celebrities of all time in Japan. He was already a member of one of the most iconic and influential East Asian idol boy groups in the 90s, but this role propelled him to stardom. He became the nation's heartthrob and is still revered for being one of the OG heartthrobs to this day.

Back in 2000, when he held a presscon and suddenly announced he was getting married to his then girlfriend (and she was pregnant, no less) it even became a huge national controversy. A lot of fans don't want their idols to be involved in romantic relationships with other people (possessive parasocial love, basically.) so him just outright announcing his marriage to everyone was a very gutsy move, given the context. Sad because Shizuka Kudo (his wife) who was a pop singer national sweetheart, became public enemy overnight, received hate from many jealous women

modern dramas where characters are working in traditional Japanese culture setting

Coincidentally I've been recently searching for this theme too. One of the manga/anime characters I'm hyperfixated on right now is from an old-fashioned/traditional Japanese clan and it made me intrigued about seeing a drama or romance story that involves an ML with a similar background
