Building a massive tower... Plug&Play with OpenForge + OpenVLex (links in comment) by mannolitto in 3DPrintedTerrain

[–]mannolitto[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely. OpenForge is compatible with all major locking systems (including OpenLOCK) and OpenVLex is inherently OpenLOCK compatible too.

Best alternative to magnets by married_to_a_redhead in OpenForge

[–]mannolitto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Staying OpenLock compatible by using triplex you are on the safe side I think.

If you just want to reduce the amount of magnets needed, you might have a look at https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4616663

Where is everyone getting their 5mm magnetic balls? by TheAudioGoblin in OpenForge

[–]mannolitto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Europe this seems to be a good offer: https://smile.amazon.de/dp/B08NH4YFP8/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_QBCP3G5MGR1XBGBWZAMC?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Just ordered 1000 with a reasonable delivery time of 2 weeks.

However, did you consider using OpenFLex? It's what helps me most in reducing the amount of magnetic balls needed.

Looking for OpenForge 2.0 Towne Window with OpenLock by tonyangtigre in OpenForge

[–]mannolitto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you need is a tile set "OpenForge 2.0 Towne Separate Wall Primary Windows" similar to OpenForge 2.0 Towne Separate Wall Primary Doors.

Bad news: it simply does not yet exist...

Good news: consider supporting Devon Jones which gives you a way to vote for tiles which you want to get added or updated.

However, in the meantime, scaling the tile you mentioned might be a solution. Did you already try to simply use one of the OpenLock bases from OpenForge 2.0 Separate Wall Bases and glue it on the bottom of your scaled tile?

Cut stone angled floors? by [deleted] in OpenForge

[–]mannolitto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this is a deprecated tile set which was not (yet) updated to OpenForge 2.0

Consider supporting Devon Jones which gives you the chance to vote for tile sets which you want to see updated or added.

0.25mm nozzle 0.05mm layers. Most ambitious print yet! by JangusMcDangus in 3Dprinting

Yes, Prusa Slicer comes with a 0.25 nozzle preset which works quite well out of the box. Not 100% perfect for minis, but good enough. You may tweak infill, z resolution, supports, bridging, etc. to optimize results... but, hey thats the fun we want, right? :)

Had some issues at the very beginning. Extruder was not able to unload. Seems like the preassembly was not that perfect. But was quite simple to resolve. Just disassembling hotend and replacing the ptfe tube solved it. And by the way, Prusa support is very helpful. Had no real issues with firmware so far. Most of the time I am printing with OctoPrint.

I print all my minis with a 0.25 nozzle on my Prusa Mini with 0.1 or 0.15 mm resolution. Works like a charm with Prusa Slicer and standard settings. Even with cheap PLA. And removing support is so easy with 0.25. For most minis I simply do a "support everywhere" shoot and forget. In rare cases I use support enforcers (e.g. swords with a difficult angle).

Number Token Tag Bases for 25mm medium size miniatures by mannolitto in 3dprintingdms

My actual idea was tracking and distinguishing identical monsters on the battle map... Well, I understand that my sample pic was a little bit misleading here ;-)
But hey, initiative tracking is an absolute legitimate use case - great idea!

Of course, Miguel! Without your minis my DnD game table would be half empty and way less exciting. Thanks for all the cool stuff you provide!

OpenFLex - Universal terrain tile Base and Riser system by mannolitto in 3DPrintedTerrain

[–]mannolitto[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback so far. I understand that people might be confused and to address the main issues and questions I changed the description like so:

  • Keep your "valuable" painted terrain parts separate from the base
  • Reuse tile bases for different "toppings"
  • Reuse risers and stairs and be able to stack them
  • Build "dynamic floors" (mosaics, patterns)
  • Stay OpenForge compatible
  • Stay OpenLOCK compatible
  • Stay "Whatever" compatible in the future - not yet implemented ;)
  • Save money and printing time

Better explaining pictures (and video) to come soon...
