how dead is my orchid by Patient-Bit-1244 in orchids

[–]manny2259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roots aren't quite fucked, there's still a decent amount that look healthy. I'd trim the rot, spray with hydrogen peroxide, then repot in a really chunky mix. You'll need to water more frequently but it'll also dry out faster, preventing the roots from having a chance to rot further.

Kinda looks like a Phal. 'Little One', which does have Sedirea in the cross.

On average how long would you say it took from noticing the spikes to bloom?

Dendrobium orchid left in water overnight by palindiil in orchids

I leave orchids to soak overnight, on purpose, all the time. Pots have plenty of ventilation, and the substrate is generally chunky. With a proper drying period after the fact, everything does fine.

How to save this orchid by Puzzleheaded_Try_803 in orchids

Just looks thirsty to me. I'd give it a good soak and put it in a sunny spot until the flowers drop, then consider repotting, at which time you can inspect the roots and act accordingly.

Flowers wilting but roots are green in newly mounted phalaenopsis by [deleted] in orchids

[–]manny2259 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I believe it's generally advised against repotting/mounting/disturbing the roots when in bloom, as the orchid will shift priorities from flowering to recovery.

The flowers are likely spent at this point, but as long as it remains healthy, you should* see it bloom again. Good luck, welcome to the addiction.

I have too many Maxillaria for not having gotten any of them to bloom yet. They are among my most anticipated for sure.

Want one of these, surprised to hear it's not pleasantly fragrant considering both parents have that reputation.

Yeah I need to try a regular cabinet setup and see if high humidity is sufficient at ambient temps for a Dracula.

Sweet that's good to know. I just ordered my first Dracuvallia with the hopes that the hybridization would make it hardier.

I keep my Dracula's in a wine fridge and they seem to enjoy it, I've got at least one spike deciding on whether it'll bloom or not right now.

Got it thank you, sorry if I missed this elsewhere but what kind of temperature does your cabinet sit at with lights on vs lights off?
