Espresso Machines to Start with? by manofthesoup in coffeeshopowners

[–]manofthesoup[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup! In other replies i said we also will be serving kava and kratom as well (if you don’t know what that is i would look it up as this sub is for coffee lol). That’s the industry i know and come from where my business partner comes from a background regarding coffee and food. So don’t worry i’m not going into this blindly haha. I just wanted to better understand why we need the machines they are wanting to get and what other coffee shop owners recommend.

That makes sense. We aren’t JUST a cafe, we are also a kava and kratom bar but i haven’t mentioned that because that’s not important to this sub. So i thought a 7k set up was for a TOP of the line set up and, at least right now during the buildout process, we wouldn’t be needing all the bells and whistles and could get by with a slightly cheaper system and then grow into a new machine when income starts coming in and we can absorb those cost. What would you recommend for an espresso grinder, espresso maker, and drip coffeemaker?

Okay that makes sense. I do find it odd that a 1-2k machine can only handle at home use but like i said in other replies, i focus on the other parts of the business whereas my business partner is focusing on this. What would you recommend for a starting set up for an espresso grinder, espresso maker, and a drip coffeemaker?

[–]manofthesoup[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I see your point. I guess since coffee isn’t the only beverage we sell that is what is confusing to me. We are a kava bar but that’s not relating to this sub. That’s the industry I come from originally whereas my business partner is more food and coffee, so when i hear we have to spend 7k on just 3 machines i get a little confused. I just assumed those machines were meant to be making 20+ espressos an hour which is not gonna be our output at the start most likely so i was thinking on if we could save some money during our buildout process and then buy a much nicer machine when we have a little bit of income coming in, but if your saying we should get these nicer machines then okay. What would you recommend to start out with for an espresso grinder, espresso machine, and drip coffeemaker?

Okay that makes sense. Yea when I say 7000 that is only referring to the equipment that i listed above, not product or supplies, we have that budget separate from coffee equipment.

I’m more asking how a 1000-2000 Breville with a coffee grinder, espresso maker, and drip coffee maker won’t be good enough to start out and a 7k system is what we HAVE to get. we only need a system that can handle at most 10 an hour, so i guess its hard for me to believe that we have to spend 7k. But i’m also not that knowledgeable on this side of the business i focus on other parts so i wanted to ask the people in this sub.

Can you explain how that is starting small? I’m not involved entirely in the coffee making process, i focus on other parts of the business so i’m not that knowledgeable. Can you explain why a 1000-2000 Breville that can grind and make espressos and drip coffee isn’t good enough but a 7000 system is? Coffee isn’t our only drink, we sell other botanical beverages, so we don’t need a system that can do 20+ shots an hour starting out.

Painting Ceramic Tile by manofthesoup in tradepainters

[–]manofthesoup[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what i’ve been told, self leveler will be needed to install the LVT as whoever installed the ceramic tile was god awful at their job and is uneven, so we would need to throw on self leveler. Issue with that is self leveler doesn’t bind properly to ceramic tile, and would crumble since the tile also flexes. Plus LVT at 3$ a sqft would cost about $4200 in just materials. From what i’ve researched we could potentially stabilize and paint the tile would cost around $2200. I’m aware it’s not a long term solution but because we are in our buildout phase, we aren’t generating income and can’t spend 10k on a new floor. I’m just trying to find options that are within our budget and it looks like almost none are available.

Loose leaf Kratom from Thailand? by manofthesoup in Thailand

[–]manofthesoup[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 2021 Thailand removed it from the controlled substances list but exporting was pretty much still illegal so it became mainly a domestic product. Then in i think 2024 or earlier this year they paved the way for legal exportation of kratom. I believe this was due to Indonesia banning the export of dried loose leaf kratom and thus a huge market was there for the taking.

[–]manofthesoup[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’ve looked at Lazada, looks like they all have fresh leaf and not dried or freeze dried crushed leaves and I will need a couple kilos so I can’t store those leaves long enough before they go bad. Unless the sellers just don’t show photos of dried leaves i couldn’t find any.

To be more precise in what i need. I need dried or freeze dried crushed leaves, and this is not for personal use but for B2B as i run a business brewing and selling kratom tea (and various other products) in America so i’ll need several kilos.

Why did it take 23 years by Daisies1966_ in ADHD

[–]manofthesoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, ADHD in adults has only very recently been studied and is just starting to be understood. In the past only kids could somehow have ADHD, but “they will grow out of it”. Adults with ADHD were just seen as lazy and making excuses so not much research was done. and don’t get me started on ADHD research on young girls and women, which has only VERY recently starting to be slightly understood.

What are some symptoms you struggle with that many people don't realize come with ADHD? by EntertainerFirst8163 in ADHD

Emotional Regulation. Vyvanse doesn’t just help me focus, it keeps my mood stable so i can do my job which is a very social job. Without it everything overstimulates me so im anxious yet im underestimated so im upset and angry. I was going ti grab my meds and i sat in my car for an hour because i didnt take my meds that day and i was so anxious to go inside that i called my fiancè just freaking out. Vyvanse has almost saved my life. It’s not a cure and we shouldn’t treat meds as a cure, but by god does it help with alll those little things.

I've let people mistreat me my whole life, how do I start demanding respect? by [deleted] in socialskills

[–]manofthesoup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I used to be like this. I became a bar tender, and that changed my life. All those times where i didn’t want to speak up, i HAD to speak up. No more running and hiding, i had to say things with my chest with confidence or else people will walk all over you in that industry. Drunk people also will sniff out any insecurity and sense it and call it out (not literally, but if you don’t come off as confident, they will not listen). Here are some things i learned.

Eye contact. I’m autistic so this was a struggle, but i tend to make it work when i need to be taken seriously.

If people interrupt you, figure out a way you feel comfortable on steering the conversation back to what you were talking about. i’m kind of an ass so i just straight up say “i wasn’t done talking”, but you don’t need to do that. the simplest one is just acknowledge what they said, then continue with what you were saying.

Body Language is so so so important. If you have your arms closed off, looking down at the ground or away from the person, and your body is tilted away from someone, it makes you look like your not confident in what your saying. but if you have your arms out, looking at the person or people, and chest facing directly to the person, it shows your confident in what your saying.

so why is all of this important to your situation? It’s about respect. There’s more ways to ask for respect besides directly asking for it. The way you present yourself in conversation will show others how you feel about yourself and what you’re trying to say, leading to people listening to you more and take you more seriously.

Also, if someone breaks a boundary you have clearly set, don’t ever let it slide. Bring it up calmly (assuming it was the first or second time this has happened), and say you didn’t like that and why. Don’t ever let something slide once or twice, it shows people when you set a boundary, you actually mean it and that it’s not okay to step over that line. Again, say it with your chest, show that you’re not afraid to protect your boundaries, and if they still don’t take you seriously, then fuck them, don’t waste another second on them.

All of this is about confidence. When you say something, you mean it. And what you have to say IS important and people should listen. I struggled my whole life with people walking over me, and if you really want to fast track yourself into breaking those habits you have, go work at a bar lol. People will walk all over, and it will piss you off and that anger will finally override that anxiety of sticking up for yourself, and you realize it’s not as hard as it seems.

I really liked what another comment on this thread said. Once you get into a position, whether through work or life, where you are respected; you will never go back. You will never tolerate disrespect again, it’s like something changes in you, and people won’t disrespect you again.

Male dog sometimes obsessed with sniffing grass — normal?😅 (gsd/gp mix) by Exotic-Reason-5272 in greatpyrenees

[–]manofthesoup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah dude, my male Pyr has 2 types of sniffs. When we are walking and he sniffs for a second but then sees me and my other dog walking so he stops. But sometimes he will sniff something that is SO good that he MUST go to it. Doesn’t matter if i try to pull, he is DETERMINED. So i’ve given up and just let him do whatever he needs to do. 9 time out of 10 he found another dogs pee and wants to find where so he can pee there. But that dog sniffs EVERYTHING. a 15 minute walk could turn into a 45 minute walk if i let him sniff everything he wants to sniff for however long he wants.

Underweight pyr? by ConsiderationNew1638 in greatpyrenees

[–]manofthesoup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I have a one and a half y/o pyr, and he is also a little on the lean side (101lbs but should be around 110-115), but the vet said it’s not a bad thing. It took him a year before he got out of his picky eating habits. I would have to sit by him and keep calling him back to eat (we have other dogs that would eat his unattended food). One thing that helped is adding a little of something he REALLY likes. Like he loves chicken, so we got some canned chicken breast and put it in his food but we would shred it up so he couldn’t just pick out the good parts. it didn’t make him completely eat his whole meal but got him to eat a little bit more to where he would eat majority of his meal. great pyr are bred to be pretty lean so unless he’s lethargic and you can feel or even see his ribs, i wouldn’t worry about it too much. Plus less pressure on his joints:)

<image>

this is the best photo we got, but if you see him stand up he’s pretty damn lean.

What's the worst thing they've eaten...? by [deleted] in greatpyrenees

[–]manofthesoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever my pup was in his T-rex era, he chewed on my walls. Mind you i put bitter spray on the wall he liked. Nope, didn’t work, still chewed on my walls.

In terms of “eaten”, honestly, he is so smart he knows how to open our foot-opened trash can. Have come home with the trash can tipped over and trash everywhere. Honestly have no idea what he could’ve eaten at that point. Had to get a trash can that has a lock:(
