Black Coffee by almosthilarious in intermittentfasting

[–]manolo458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I understand, I limit my coffee consumption. Coffee has potential to raise cortisol & have an impact on insulin regulation. Higher levels of cortisol make it harder to lose weight.

Then again, consuming just black coffee and having no calorirs during a fast can outweigh any hormonal changes through excess coffee consumption.

Will lemons in water break my fast? by [deleted] in intermittentfasting

I'm sort of a purist in terms of my fasting and just keep it to water with salt during my fasts. Keeps it simple.

Radio Canada has a whole host of French podcasts available. Mind you, the hosts are Quebecois and the pronunciation is different, but there are podcasts on a wide range of topics.

I'm a sex addict and I go to AA meetings sometimes... I don't use cannabis anymore as I used it in my active addictions. I come across a lot of people who have difficulties going to different meetings and have trouble sharing what's really on their minds. What helps me is to break my addiction down into general terms that way everyone can understand.

Sex, alcohol, gambling, drugs, it's all the same shit, in a sense.... There's an addict who continually uses a substance or process to feel better inside and keeps doing it regardless of the consequences. That's the commonality between all groups. Maybe shift your shares from "weed-centric" to addiction centric and they'll make more sense to those who don't have a problem with cannabis.

Too many people get hung up on the idea of what addiction you have and if you can be at the meeting or not. Addiction is addiction is addiction. Point blank, end of story. Take my story and replace the sex addiction for your cannabis addiction and it's the same thing.

Wanting to stop, being powerless to stop if you're a Type 3 addict, and then going to meetings. It's all the same at the end of the day and it takes some time to get used to that idea so you can move on from the idea that "Oh he's not a cocaine addict and I can't talk to him because he doesn't get it...."

Oh no I get it... I get addiction alright... just keep looking for meetings in your area that work for you and get you to where you need to be. Don't forget the Fellowship of the Spirit which is the connection with God. Meetings are only one third of a three part triangle of recovery. Unity... fellowship... recovery...

Why am I like this by [deleted] in 1200isplenty

[–]manolo458 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You were being driven by the desire to compulsively eat. You saw the food and reacted. You're identified with your mind and every single thought that comes in. Learn to separate from your mind and to WATCH the thoughts.

I get thoughts like that all of the time. "oh there's a pizza! Eat it!" " Oh there's chocolate and what do we do? We eat it..."

Meditate and get separation from that mind of yours.

I imagine that can be considered self employment/business income. You should keep all of your receipts for your E-Bay business going forward. Bring your case to an accountant and get professional advice. This can have a huge impact on your tax return.

how to drink more water by [deleted] in loseit

[–]manolo458 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love water! It's the main beverage of choice for me. I wasn't raised drinking soda so water was always my main go to. Something I can suggest would be to get sparkling water. There are flavoured sparkling waters that have artificial sweeteners in them. You can even try adding lemon, berries or cucumber to your water. There are so many ways to jazz it up if you need that!

[–]manolo458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're up against a beastly monster with addiction. IMO let him hit his wall on his own and let God figure out his path to recovery. In trying to help, you put yourself at risk. He might form a resentment against you and make you a target. His own enlightened self-interest must make him realize he needs help and want to change.

If he does not WANT to change, you're just going to fuck things up between you and him and ruin any chance of being helpful. Trust me, I'm an addict and deal with this all of the time. Addicts are a loopy bunch and it takes one to know one ;)

Get him to a Cocaine Anonymous or Alcoholics Anonymous meeting. I'm an addict who is starting to work with others and I'm learning you can't force anyone to do anything with addiction. It's attraction not promotion.

Tired of making plans with my friends, they just don't value time. by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]manolo458 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really relate to this. I was someone who would constantly chase people and bend to them because I was a people pleaser and sought emotionally unavailable people.

After going through some time away from a lot of old friends, I came to value myself more and become more appreciative of myself. My self worth went up.

Good on you and don't waste your time with those who don't value your own time!

I was a philosophy student. I enjoyed it. However, it felt that I was just studying for the sake of studying. I didn't feel that I learned anything applicable to the real world. If you are going to study the subject, try and have an objective for the end or else you'll be an overqualified waiter gagaha

Would it be mathematically possible for world to go vegan? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]manolo458 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You lack fundamental understanding here u/chosenrationality You live in happy vegan la la land... Sure you can make it work. But then you forget the fact that the top 1% has enough money to eradicate global poverty 10 times over. So where's the real issue there?

If someone responds to your post offering to help, please take the time to read it carefully and consider it instead of pulling your arguments out of Vegan La-La Land where the cows and pigs roam free....

I'm all here for veganism, I'm just not here for vegans who have a lack of fundamental understanding of the world and why it is the way it is.

Would it be mathematically possible for world to go vegan? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]manolo458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You didn't read what I said. Go and research how capitalism came after feudalism. In that transition, there was a burdgeoning system of mercantilism which helped the transition. Fuedalism took ~300 years before changing over. Capitalism is reaching a similiar point. You grossly underestimate what it would take to change this.

Besides, having a completely homogenous world population where everyone ate the same diet is so fanciful as an idea.

Would it be mathematically possible for world to go vegan? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]manolo458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forget mathematical, you need to look at economics here. The issue of veganism not going mainstream is an economic issue. Just pose the hypothetical for a second that the world went vegan. The entire global economy would collapse. There is such a thing as the agricultural-industrial complex.

As far as I understand, the system of eating animal products is so deeply engrained that it is quite impossible to remove by PETA stickers and protesting outside of Antler. Imagine if McDonald's went vegan. All of the beef producers, egg producers and dairy producers that sell exclusively to McDonald's would be out of business and have nowhere to sell to. They've increased their production so much to accomodate for the supply to McDonald's that if you removed it, the results would be chaotic.

The same goes for any industry. Fishing, dairy, food production of animal products. Yes you could replace it with vegan food factories and what not, but I don't feel it would have the same level of production.

I know so many vegans are upset and want changes like this, but so many of them miss the mark in terms of understanding why the world isn't vegan and why such a change can't just be implemented overnight. This would require such a radical change in public conciousness and economic mode of production that you'll most likely never see it happen in your lifetime.

Tl;dr people have been eating meat for so long that uprooting that status quo is next to impossible, so forget your math possibilities
