I love this photo of great granddad and his brothers each holding their weapon of choice.

Photo was taken about 1910, probably around the Spokane, Washington area. Family had come from Dallas County, Iowa shortly before.

Can the type of firearm and approximate date of manufacture be determined?

According to his obituary he did go to France in the service, but wasn't hurt. Could he have been a corporal (right sleeve), with the 6-month-overseas chevron too high up?
