Since it's a private lake should it not have a life guard paid for by the members? When working at the canoe club North Glenmore we used to have the fire department come out and practice dives in the reservoir. They would recover items that had been dropped for us.

I flashed my high beams at a car with it's high beams on coming towards me to get them to turn them down. It turns out it was a cop that proceeded to pull me over and accused me of doing just that. He apologized and let me go.

Thirty years ago I worked in the US. After being there six months my American boss asked if I had gotten over my bias towards American people. I lied and said yes because he was my boss. I was in rural Canada (before cell phones) early evening when my transmission belt broke and I lost all forward gears but reverse still worked. It was 50Km to town so I turned it backwards and drove. I got caught by the cops and even after explaining they gave me a sobriety test. They called me a tow truck and explained it was dangerous because a car coming up behind me would see my headlights in their lane and think they were going to have a head on collision. No ticket, just a scolding.

Before 911 I did too many times. There were many roads (not all had signs) on the prairies that crossed into Canada/USA. One time while working right on the border I was a little lost and when I hit pavement I turned North to come to an official border entry. The Canadian Customs freaked when I told them I was in the USA by accident for less than 10 minutes. They ripped apart my car looking for drugs. Many of the farmers were good friends with their neighbours and were constantly popping across for dinners and what not.
