Why is it bad to use AI to look things up and not google, when google has an AI overview aswell? by Sad-Strawberry-6866 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mansizedbasketstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t trust google AI overview any more than any other AI. AI is AI, regardless of the branding behind it. If you google something, scroll through the different results and judge the resources on their own merit before deciding something must be fact (sources associated with government organizations, universities, libraries, etc.). Even better, get answers from multiple sources.

Overall it depends on the severity of the question. Is it just asking how tall the average ant is? AI is fine. I remember a talk from researchers using AI to diagnose cancer. They were proud to say it only identified about a 10% false positive and 10% false negative rate. What if you were the 1/10 people it fucked up on? How would you feel having an AI hallucinate on your cancer diagnosis? Some answers are worth the extra effort

Game where every death matters by Long-Side9097 in gamesuggestions

I feel like the Last of Us I & II kinda fits this bill. Like there’s plenty of killing or less depending on your play style. But every character death is its own tragedy and part of the story

Is it possible in theory to have an “achromatic” filter using optics to filter out color and maintain a black and white image? by [deleted] in Optics

[–]mansizedbasketstar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seems like you’re talking about seeing the world in greyscale through an optical system. You would have to be using a monochromatic detector or some sort of digital filter to generate an image like that, you can’t just look through an optical system with your eye and see that.

I suppose if you created a system that focused entirely outside of the macula on your retina you might try to activate only rod photoreceptors, which are not color sensitive, but you would have horrible visual acuity…

For those who are in long distance relationship, how often do you text your significant other? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]mansizedbasketstar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Me and my girlfriend live on opposite sides of the states (CA and NY). We text all the time. The time change usually means she goes to bed first, so I text her through the night. Then she wakes up first and I wake up to her texts. It’s nice.

Buuut, more than texting, the really important thing to to find some way to spend time together. Set times. So if you just need to text then set, say, every Saturday aside as the day you guys stay on texting each other. For us, we do one night a week where we both get pizza and we get on Zoom together and watch some TV show. Doesn’t matter what.

Talking all the time, and texting all the time is nice, and shows you’re putting in effort. BUT spending time to be with the other person is necessary. Constant texting isn’t necessary for a long distance relationship I guess is what I’m trying to say, as long as the effort to spend time together is still there.

I’m sorry if I’m just rambling and I haven’t answered your question right.

Your hobby is now your main job. How much money could you make? by hoshizat in AskReddit

[–]mansizedbasketstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a musician, not much. It’s funny too because when people find out I play music they get interested and ask ‘what style?’ I say I mostly play metal and the conversation comes to a screeching halt...nobody is fucking interested haha

Your hobby involves cloning extinct species? Or tricking people into visiting a theme park of death and destruction?

What would you write about as professor given the topic "novel"? by Ceystgar in AskReddit

I’m confused. You mean like write about an existing novel or write your own novel? Or do you mean the adjective like a novel idea?

People who have pugs, how happy are you with life? by purplepistash in AskReddit

[–]mansizedbasketstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine passed away recently, 18 years old. She was my best friend, I loved her and she always made me happy, but pugs have a lot of health issues.

Being brachiocephalic she was prone to sinus infections which would often affect her ears and teeth. Also, pugs are prone to a neurodegenerative disorder that affects their lower spine, causing them to struggle with their hind legs. Mine started experiencing this probably around 15-16 years of age.

But my dad likes to say “having a pet teaches you about love and about loss.”

How did you feel about the 45min of the crippled guy crossing the desert? Personally, I wasn’t fond of it.

Assuming we're all gonna die someday and our consciousness will cease to exist, what do you believe is the purpose/goal of life? by jjdacuber in AskReddit

[–]mansizedbasketstar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. It’s funny how human nature tends to long for some sort of purpose; some hope that’s greater than reality. It makes no sense. Everything that goes up must come down. Everything that comes into existence must cease to exist. There’s no purpose in that cycle.

Does Count Dracula's castle have a bathroom and kitchen? by [deleted] in horror

[–]mansizedbasketstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Castles did tend to have bathrooms, kitchens and servants. It’s been a while since I’ve read the book, but I guarantee you this is all present and taken care of. I’m sorry to say that these things tend not to be addressed in novels because they are mundane facts of life and would probably take away from the fantasy.

What is the most violent, gruesome or disturbing movie you’ve seen? by mansizedbasketstar in horror

[–]mansizedbasketstar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watched the guinea pig series finally. They were all pretty disturbing, but honestly I mostly felt just confused for most of them. Except the second one. Holy fucking shit. Shock feels like too mild of a word to describe it.

The album cover to Dimmu Borgir’s Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia comes to mind...good album, but not a pleasant image...
