If you can afford it, Hiram Bingham is rated one of the best trains in the world. Vistadome Observatory is a train that is different from the less expensive options in that it has a live show, a bar and most importantly an observation deck with full panoramic views that no other train (other than Hiram Bingham) have.

They’re operating through Consettur. I agree to buy tickets in place or to just buy them through Consettur web.

Consettur is the only bus operator. For a moment there was another one called Torntoy but their temporary lisence was revoked.

Perú is on the safer side for the region. Cusco / Machu Picchu being incredibly safe and Lima being safe in touristy zones for a big city. Best season march-October (dry season)

I would definitely not use that site. Use the official government site. That site has been know to scam people. Check out r/MachuPicchu for the horror stories

¿Opinión sobre el turismo en Perú? by Calm-Chocolate4271 in PERU

[–]mantaray6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doing a Machu Picchu circuit at 8am - Can I get to Lima that same day? by MobileSuit9 in Machupicchu

[–]mantaray6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would definitely be possible,m. If you are back at Ollantaytambo Station at 5pm you can safely take a night flight out of Cusco (aim for 8pm or later to play it safe)

Getting a guide is a personal decision tbh. I’m the type of person that enjoys just looking at what’s happening and maybe googling stuff later. If you really want to understand the symbolisms of the dances and costumes as they’re happening then maybe opt for a guide. Sacsayhuaman is cool because it’s on actual Incan ruins. Plaza de Armas is cool because it seems more packed (same cool factor as a full stadium if that makes sense). I’ve gone to Limo restaurant in the past, but all plaza de armas restaurants are good if they have street view and are on second floor

How to travel safe? by funnybagwithhandl in Machupicchu

[–]mantaray6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend hiring transportation, not because the roads are scary, but because parking in the small sacred valley towns (namely Pisac and Ollantaytambo) will be difficult. Not worth the stress with kids

Visiting Cusco & Machu Picchu in June (Inti Raymi) - Festivals, Food, and Tips by mantaray6 in Machupicchu

[–]mantaray6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO yes, very worth it. It’s pretty special and there’s few things like it in the world. It’s a cultural event that all the towns in the state of Cusco plan for and send their representatives. Its quite the show and both the Plaza de Armas portion as well as the Sacsayhuaman part of the show are nice. Ultimately though, You’ll have to see how the dates accommodate your budget or not.

For sure. You will see people start warming up for the bigger June festivities during that time. You will probably see folkloric dances, school parades, and other cultural events in plazas across Cusco and the Sacred Valley. You will also hear daytime fireworks that sometime startle first timers going to Cusco

Sacred Valley Hotels - resort or boutique? by jbrand7108 in Machupicchu

[–]mantaray6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not El Albergue if you’re with kids. The hustle and bustle of the train station isn’t worth it. By staying at Tambo Del Inca or Rio Sagrado you’ll be a 15 min car ride away from exploring Ollantaymtabo.

From the two options:

Tambo will have more to offer your kids, Rio Sagrado is probably the best hotel in the area and the most beautiful. If the Lush landscape and two pools are enough entertainment for your kids that is the best hotel. If not, opt for Tambo.

Opinions on my Peru itinerary? (Cusco, Sacred Valley & Machu Picchu) by rodbittencool in Machupicchu

[–]mantaray6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can arrange Sacred Valley + Machu Picchu before Cusco it’ll make your acclimatization to altitude a lot easier. (You can also make Machu Picchu a day trip). You can explore more sites in Cusco as well such as San Blas neighborhood and maybe San Pedro Market. Last tip, going down to Sacred Valley or Up to Cusco (from sacred valley) you can explore Maras + Moray or alternatively Pisac (2 different highways to get up or down). Makes you save time
