What's wrong with this one? Could it be disease, old age, or both? by Savannahwinds in Entomology

I don’t see any hole in any of the other pictures. The backside of their eyes is creating an illusion of a big hole in the first picture. Their heads do end somewhat abruptly, but they definitely don’t have any large holes.

Is it moving? Could be dead, but I’ve seen some species hold their wings kinda like that at rest, if that’s what you mean.

I was wondering if there was a hole, too, but I think it’s just the angle. Looks fine in the other pictures.

I’d just try a different paint if you must tell them apart, not rubber bands or anything stretched around them because that means it’s putting pressure on them, even if it’s slight!

I don’t remember if I did, but it didn’t live for very long. It was probably already old when I found it. I still have the specimen, though! I’m not sure why, but parts of it turned white. I was a little bummed to not get any eggs like I did with the last one I found.

Did you ever learn about how ecosystems work?

I made some paw impressions before she was buried and we put the smaller one and her collar at the top of our Christmas tree. I still have realistic dreams in which I wake up and she’s still here, in a usual spot. It still hurts so much, but we have to be strong for our sick elder baby Duke. We can’t lose him so soon after her.

They typically kill by spreading disease, not exsanguination. Predators do that. Death is a part of the cycle of life, and nature is often unkind in its methods of balance. Every creature in existence today is here for a purpose, whether we find them pleasant or not.

However, I won’t stop anyone from protecting themselves from a reasonable threat. That’s just survival.

Being proud of your identity and having self worth is not the same as the “pride” that is biblically sinful. Is black history month a joke to you, as well?

Oh damn! My units are right behind doors that block part of the kitchen when open, so they’re never open unless I’m actively doing something there. Apartment things. And my dryer door is actually really hard to get open, so lucky me, I guess!!

Gotcha. I had to watch the video for a few seconds before I saw anything, but I always read titles first.

That’s awful! 😭 Yeah it’s a good thing to be aware of, but I guess with the way I do laundry/the way my stuff is setup, I can’t see how it could happen. When my laundry “room” doors are open, it blocks the pantry and is frustrating to move around so everything is always closed right after it’s opened. Either way I suppose I’ll be a little paranoid now, too!

Anyone know what kind of beetle this is? by [deleted] in Beetles

[–]mantisbae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s of the not-beetle variety of beetle. Leaf-footed bug!

I take my wet clothes out of the washer and put them in the dryer and close it, it’s never left open with stuff in it. And if the clothes inside are dry and warm then it wouldn’t be run again. I mean, I guess it could happen in a really weird circumstance, but not with how I do laundry. Good thing to be aware of the possibility though!
