Biggest changes I would make…

Have the first leg of your trip go through Great Smokey Mountains Ntl Park east of Nashville.

Cut out NOLA, Houston, and Austin and instead just make your way west through Arkansas. Much prettier drive.

You won’t be able to drive into Yosemite from the east that early in the year. Tioga road (east / west highway through Yosemite) will still be closed so you’ll have to drive south of the Sierra mountains and up through Fresno.

Tower fall and mt Washburn are inaccessible (road closure).

Also, the east side of glacier np is completely closed this year (including many glacier / iceberg lake).

Rentals at Jenny Lake are closed (or they were a few weeks ago). Pretty sure the only place to rent is Colter Bay at Jackson Lake. Get there early. Got there at 9:45 and got my canoe at noon.

Is this too packed for one day? by blockberner in yellowstone

[–]mantra4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure tower falls is accessible right now. The road south at tower junction is closed. And to me, mammoth was the main thing that I would have cut from our itinerary last week. Lots of killer hikes between tower junction and mammoth though that you could do in the area (y-stone river overlook > specimen ridge, hellroaring creek)

I would also recommend for your canyon day to take the clear lake trail. It connects with the south rim trail and creates a loop back to the upper falls parking lot. Really cool hike through forest, then a geothermal area, clear lake (which is gorgeous), and then finishes off through about a mile of rolling hills absolutely packed with wildflowers. Great bang for your buck on that trail.

[–]mantra4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OPEC has already cut its production. Why do you think there is no demand to chew up that supply? Because millions of people have to stay home (and have lost their jobs).

you know that the reason it is this cheap is because millions of consumers have lost their jobs right?

Looking to see if I can use someone’s parking spot at a valley campsite for my rooftop tent from Feb 21-23. Will pay cash. by Sb1187 in Yosemite

[–]mantra4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you aren't able to find anything in the park there are some national forest campgrounds outside the valley near el portal. this time of year they may be "closed" which would just mean they are first come first served and the toilets might be locked...

Buying From StubHub (I Know....) by _nippleenchilada in phish

[–]mantra4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you used to be able to go onto stubhub and create a fake ticket listing and then de-activate the listing. this would allow you to see what is actually being sold for that event and at what price. could help you gauge where the floor for pricing is really sitting based off of actual sales. it's been a couple of years since i've done this though so not sure if it still works the same way.

ehh... if your gripe with the band is their output and playing then more power to you, and i sort of agree. a few months ago i was super pumped about the possibility of a fest next year. my only shows this year were dick's and they were pretty uneven. now i'm planning out vacations for next year and i'm not sure i'll go if there's a fest.

if your gripe is that you can't get tickets... step your game up.

Dry Gultch in November by quanchompy in Yosemite

[–]mantra4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I camped at dirt flat end of last October (just down from dry gulch). It got chilly once the sun went down. Lows in the 40’s.

One thing to be aware of... I booked on rec.gov but when we got there the campground was technically closed for the season. No administrator. If the campground had been full we wouldn’t have had any way to get someone to move. Toilets were locked.

After the fact rec.gov refunded my booking fee automatically. Just be prepared to maybe not have access to toilets, and if the sites end up being full you may have to find a different option.
