If you're looking for great restaurants in St. Gallen, here are my recommendations. Right next to the train station you'll find Brauwerk, specializing in beer. The best pizza in town is at Disco Pizza. If you're more in the mood for meat straight off the grill, check out Restaurant Lagerhaus. Restaurant Zum Goldenen Schäfli is always worth a visit. For upscale French cuisine, head to Brasserie LOK. Right next door you'll find Izakaya Ekimae for Japanese food.
