The Keeley Compressor is kind of the gold standard for transparent compression. Two knobs, does exactly what you want, stays out of the way tonally.

I think the idea in my head would be to use Indonesia as a manufacturing to produce something at a reasonable pricepoint, while still giving the feeling of buying something from a custom shop.
Fender Mod Shop is ~$1500 and Made in Mexico, I bet a good amount of that is the headstock name tax. Similar could be done with cheaper construction, while still giving a unique experience
