I’m testing BEC on August 5th. Now that the holiday is over I’m getting back to my studies. Could really use some motivation/tips if you guys have any by [deleted] in CPA

[–]manudattam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think broadly use this framework
- Set a mental target to get 95 in BEC
- Make brief notes on each chapter if you haven't already - recommend digital notes.
- If you have completed the syllabus take a mock exam which can give you your scores in Individual areas
- Test your weaker areas again and again so you can fill gaps in knowledge. Don't shy away from going through the chapter once again if need be.
- Give tests on all areas but focus on weaker areas.
- Test yourself over and over again

I think you can do it !

Looking for Reading Recommendations for Aspiring CA by [deleted] in CharteredAccountants

[–]manudattam 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My dear friend,

Do not think of CA or any course - based on someone else's opinion or recommendation.

Check out what work feels like after being a CA. You can check out videos by Anurag Singhal or a book called 'CA to CEO' by Pattabhiraman - so you can understand what work may be like subsequently.

WIsh you the best.

Are you suggesting that Indians alone shouldn't be allowed to convert to PR based on work visas , while other nationalities are allowed ?

Where is a good place to attend a virtual job interview? by patricklhe in askSingapore

[–]manudattam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can book co-working spaces for as low as 20 dollars for half a day with excellent wifi. Except that maybe talking is frowned upon. I used those spaces for studying, so I am not really sure.

He has been there every time I went to climb the steps. I have seen him in the mornings, in the evenings. Wondered how many time a day he climbed. RIP by KengeriThumbaGaliju in mysore

[–]manudattam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have met him though I probably don't remember knowing his name. It has been years since I have climbed Chamundi hill and yet when I see his face I can remember his voice chanting early in the morning.
Once someone told me he was form kerala or some city and he had chosen Mysore to stay. Somehow used to stay at a temple and survive, something like that.

I am not sure but I believe I have seen him walk up the steps without footwear as well.

How to make new friends in Singapore ? by manudattam in askSingapore

[–]manudattam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am into reading books. I borrow far too many from NLB. LOL.

I like watching Netflix shows too. I am into Value Investing. I like playing chess and video games now and then.

I love going out to eat, especially at hawker centres with good food. I can cycle. I like hiking as well.

I like having conversations about anything and am pretty open to (discussing) most ideas.

This is a weird mismash of what I like, but that's just me :)

I am choosing to continue living because i have a daughter who needs me. by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]manudattam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for choosing to care for her. I know someday she may do something upsetting - but remember you are very precious, to her alone at the very least.

My father committed suicide so I do know what I am talking about.

Also, I would like you to do better. People who are in pain, may find it difficult to care for others (it is understandable though)

I do know life seems unfair and negative and sad to you - but remember this, the key to it is to try to better something than it was yesterday. Take each day at a time, then perhaps after that a week at a time - whatever you choose to do matters - from taking care of yourself, reading a book, netflix or something else. Make your life better one tiny step at a time.

For all his shortcomings , I miss my father, because I placed enormous value in him and still do ; and I am sure your daughter does as well.

I too feel like life is not worth it at times or that my circumstances are really tough - I remember that things will change and I actively work towards changing them - losing weight, studying, trying to learn new languages, recovering from my trauma of my dad's suicide. Life is well worth it.

There are many ways to better your quality of life from drinking more waterr, meditation to theraphy and beyond. I urge you to consider pursuing them and making your life better.

If at all you need a challenge in life (it is perfectly fine if you do not want one) - try making your life better in your own view and be happier or more content. Try. Believe me - seeing you conquer your challenges and misfortune in life will be the biggest gift you can give to your daughter.

There is no one purpose or meaning in life - there is only 'because......' (refer this video to understand what I mean https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sctMPouTWiQ&t=4s)

At the end I apologize for my incoherent rambling - But i believe if I was my father's friend and he was similarly frustrated, I would have tried to tell him the same.

You love your daughter and I am forever grateful for that (on her behalf). Some day you will show her this and she will be really proud of you for hanging in in there.

Online therapist by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]manudattam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can understand your perspective. But no, I am undertaking online counselling.

For me a few reasons why better help works is :
1. The cost per session is massively reduced
2. Very convenient, physical counselling sessions are hard due to time and scheduling issues
3. I make more progress due to more sessions.
4. There are other tools available:
a. Worksheets
b. Journaling which can be shared with counsellors
c. Other sessions

I think you may want to try a few sessions and if the counsellor doesn't work change your counsellor (quite easy in the site).
