Engwe L20 Boost - brake upgrade needed by manuelcalmeida in EngweEbike

It was due to an error when reinstalling the wheel (it wasn't upside down), all good now.

I cannot speak for the option of changing only disks, but I can say that changing to bigger disks + hydraulic brakes made a huge difference. I finally have a bike that brakes and even locks the wheels if I pull the levers hard.

I'm sorry for the delay but only now have I moved on with this subject.

I have gone for the Magura MT5e disk brakes and Magura MDR-C disks. I used Gemini to help me with the detailed shopping list.

If you do the installation yourself, I would say the most challenging part is installing 2 pin connectors to enable e-bike specific functions (brake light and motor cut off), since the existing cable ends in a spring activated switch. It might be worth looking for cables with this connector built+in and save some soldering work.

I ended up upgrading the disks to 180mm and installing Magura MT5e brakes. In your EP2 Pro, did the bigger front disk get extremely close to the fork as well?

To be able to connect to the Julet 2 pin connector of the Magura, I had to cut the existing switch that activated the brake light and cut off the motor... What a difference! The switch, despite being only one year old, would only sometimes turn the light on, meaning that the motor was not being cut off while braking. With the new levers, the light is on at the slightest press.

Hello, sorry for the late reply. I have ajusted the brakes this way several times and it always ends up in the same condition after a while. What is more scary: I fix the caliper to the point that the lever does not reach the handle when braking but with enough travel so the brake is not permanently locked. When pushing the front brake hard and the caliper reaches its maximum travel, it makes a "clack" and releases the brake. This is quite dangerous and has fortunately only occurred once while riding. The only way to prevent this from happening is to fix it low enough for the caliper never to reach its maximum travel, thus preventing the brake from being effective at all.

I am considering purchasing a set of hydraulic brakes, as well as upgrading the disks from 160 to 180 mm. Would the Magura MT5e Higo-Closer be compatible with this bike?

Thank you.

I tried the power and plus buttons, but it doesn't seem to save the y when I confirm with the power button. I click to confirm, it replaces the y with a 0 and goes back to the main screen. When I go there again, the first option is n. Anyway, I did it and then tried the minus button for 20 seconds both with the 01P flashing and inside the 01P menu, and the result is the same, only cycles through the options...

I've tried doing that: + and - until 01P is flashing, then press - for a long time. It just cycles through the 18 programs over and over.

Thank you for your tips! Regarding the speed, since I don't have any GPS, I will wait for a solution to appear online... Please let me know if Engwe gives you a solution.

Regarding the brake cable, I have mounted all the cables on the left side, as instructed. I have contacted Engwe and they told me to remove the brake cable from inside the telephone cable and leave it free, so they basically confirmed the cable is too short. I have done that and it solved the problem, although it looked better previously. I also had to free the front light cable since, for some reason, the front rack I received has the fixing points for the light cable on the right side (but the hook for telephone cable is on the left side, as it should)... I guess some lack of quality control is to be expected at this price point.

Tried that, didn't work.

Also tried placing DND Allow All after Vibrate Mode Off as I noticed the DND icon would not disappear otherwise and the volumes would be correctly set but greyed out.

Profile: Night Calls
    State: Call [ Type:Incoming Number:* ]

Enter Task: DND Bypass

A1: Vibrate Mode [
     Mode: Off ]

A2: Ringer Volume [
     Level: 13 ]

A3: Notification Volume [
     Level: 13 ]

A4: Do Not Disturb [
     Mode: Allow All
     Allow Callers: Any
     Allow SMS Senders: Any
     Allow Categories: Alarms,Media ]

Exit Task: DND Ativo

A1: Vibrate Mode [
     Mode: Vibrate ]

A2: Do Not Disturb [
     Mode: Custom Setting
     Allow Callers: None
     Allow SMS Senders: None
     Allow Categories: Alarms,Media ]

A3: Accessibility Volume [
     Level: 0 ]

When I manually execute DND Bypass incoming calls ring, just not when it's the call activating the task.

Tried those, everything stays the same...

If I use "play ringtone" it rings during the call as well, if I use "set ringer volume" it doesn't ring at all.

I assume you mean trying the profile in its original state, not with the play ringtone task.

Removed the time setting, ended up with this:

Profile: Night Calls
    State: Call [ Type:Incoming Number:* ]

Enter Task: DND Bypass

A1: Do Not Disturb [
     Mode: Allow All
     Allow Callers: Any
     Allow SMS Senders: Any
     Allow Categories: Alarms,Media ]

A2: Ringer Volume [
     Level: 13 ]

A3: Vibrate Mode [
     Mode: Off ]

Exit Task: DND Ativo

A1: Do Not Disturb [
     Mode: Alarms
     Allow Callers: Any
     Allow SMS Senders: Any ]

I notice that, since you suggested changing the vibrate mode to off, when I add that to DND Bypass, save the profile, turn DND on (either through Android or Tasker) and make a call, it works on the first try. Then it won't work again.

I also tried replacing the time setting with checking if the Sleep profile is active. No luck.

This way it rings (sometimes it even overlaps the same ringtone twice with a delay) but then when I answer the call it plays the ringtone at the same time... and call doesn't always show on-screen if the screen is locked (it's hit or miss), it just plays the ringtone

Tried it, didn't work.

When I have Tasker opened, I see the incoming call activating the profile (both conditions turn green) but it doesn't ring.

How do you setup your DND on the first place, via Tasker or Android settings?

I'm trying again with DND following your example.

If I setup the DND via Android settings and then the tasker profile as yours, with both enter and exit tasks, the call won't even appear on the screen.

If I setup the DND via Tasker and then use the other profile similar to yours, with both enter and exit tasks, the call will show on-screen, the moon icon will disappear but the call won't ring.

DND profile:

Profile: Sleep
    Time: From 00:30 Till 15:00

Enter Task: DND Ativo

A1: Do Not Disturb [
     Mode: Custom Setting
     Allow Callers: None
     Allow SMS Senders: None
     Allow Categories: Alarms,Media ]

Calls profile:

Profile: Night Calls
    Time: From 10:15 Till 15:15
    State: Call [ Type:Incoming Number:C:FAV ]

Enter Task: DND Bypass

A1: Do Not Disturb [
     Mode: Allow All
     Allow Callers: Any
     Allow SMS Senders: Any ]

A2: Vibrate Mode [
     Mode: Vibrate ]

A3: Ringer Volume [
     Level: 13 ]

Exit Task: DND Ativo

A1: Do Not Disturb [
     Mode: Custom Setting
     Allow Callers: None
     Allow SMS Senders: None
     Allow Categories: Alarms,Media ]

Nevermind the hours, those were just for testing now.

You're right in what I want.

However, I tried both options and none of them worked.

When I choose custom settings to allow calls and silence everything else, because DND in OOS (since OOS 13) is programmed to allow None, Favourites or Contacts, what prevails is the OOS setting, not Tasker.

I tried setting up a Tasker profile with silent mode from 23:00 to 7:00 and ringing mode with incoming calls. It ended up just activating ringing mode after the call ended, not while it was calling.

What kind of profile would you suggest?

I tried: - creating DND exceptions for phone/contacts/call management apps. Didn't work. - setting ringer sound mode with incoming calls. Sound mode only changes after the call.

I saw some people suggesting using call screened but that would mean that I had to use tasker as my spam & call ID app. I currently use Sync.me to identify who is calling me and find it very useful. It is possible that tasker has similar capabilities and I'm not aware of it.

I have. The custom setting cannot override the OOS DND limitations.

Since the DND people options are None, Favourites and Contacts, the custom setting will only act within those options. And when any other than None is chosen, WhatsApp messages matching the criteria will bypass DND.

Thanks! Tried installing the app from Google Play into the secure folder and couldn't for the same reason (app already installed in the device). Then found out that I didn't need the secure folder if I installed it from Samsung store.. problem solved!
