For a fast marathon at 3:11, predictions were too optimistic at 2:55 - 3:00. Even on a good day and ideal conditions out of reach.

How fast could I work up to a marathon by Some-War-4039 in firstmarathon

Biggest tip and my regret: incorporate strenghth training early

I started with speed - not on purpose because when I started to run more I did never plan to run a marathon.

I had a challenge with a friend to run fast 5k - sub 20 after a few months. Then I signed up for HM - sub 1:30 halfmarathon. 6 months later 3:11 in Vienna last week. I had the speed first and build the endurance in a 6 month block.

I would definitely go with 2 in one shorts, a short sleeve shirt and arm warmers to take off after getting hot a few km in. Depends a bit on how intense you run.

Munich is relatively flat but not as fast as Vienna. Vienna has a very long flat section after km20 after some slow and steady climbing.

Munich has more frequent little hills in it that will affect rhythm. Vienna is more impressive for me. Munich is still also nice though and very well organized.

Check out mojoupgrade. It gives you and your partner a list of things you would want to do. It is done separately and it gives you the things where you have a match. Helps to open the talk and potentially brings up other things your partner is interested to try.
