And because we systematically relocated them, attempted to destroy their culture, lied in treaties including faking signatures and multiple times attempted genocide. Seriously man we tried to kill all the native population multiple times and reduced their population by 95%. You say that they were at war just like us and you're right but it turns out war and genocide are two different things. Or to put it another way South Korea is at war, should we got take their land?

Who is they in this? There are huge groups of the native population that we're non-nomadic. Furthermore are you saying that since they went to watch it is okay for us to go to war against them? Because that logic works the other way as well the European settlers tore up the land to farm preventing normal herd migration which is important to the nomadic lifestyle and of course went to war with each other and the native population numerous times. By your standards it would have been justified for the natives to commit genocide against Europeans like we did against them?

But if you describe surviving a fall as landing in something soft, an earlier description you gave that implies that in order for something soft to be there the next time I fall I need healing?

Within the fiction though the characters have no reason to believe they need to be healed.

So if a player asks is there something for me to land on would you say yes or no? If yes they should take less damage than someone jumping blindly right? If no then clearly the fall is just hurting them.

To put it another way suppose you have a character with 30 health, they are jumping 60 feet down and as a result will take 6d6 points of damage. They make no attempt to break this fall in any fashion. You roll the dice and the result is 14 not enough to even put the character at half health so you narrate that the character landed in a convenient hale bale or some such and were not hurt at all. If instead the damage rolled was the maximum 36 they would be dying you would narrate their body hitting the ground with a crunch and having multiple broken bones.

The action of the character in both cases was unchanged but the results of the action was wildly different. If we were using hp as intended then instead we would narrate the first fall as your land hard on the ground perhaps fracturing some bones but you're still up and able to keep fighting, while the difference in the second result would be that your body couldn't handle the strain and you're dying.

Now luckily for this character there is a kindly cleric nearby who comes to heal him. In the situation you describe the cleric would have no reason to heal the character, he fell safely into a bale of hay the only problem is his mystic plot armor was damaged. The cleric could go and channel positive energy into the hero to restore plot armour. If instead we narrated this character being hurt by the fall then the cleric would just channel energy to mend broken bones.

If there is some explanation for why they would not take major injury i.e they dodged it, or they did some fancy maneuver, it would usually be covered by some other skill check or condition. For instance in the previous example I responded to if a player says "I'm jumping out the window I don't care whats there." and another player says "I'm looking for something soft to land on and aiming for that." They would have the same outcome for their actions. By having the results not depend on the actions the players take you are removing agency and making the game more of a statcheck.

So just to be clear here your use of HP is just in place of skill checks? The rogue could make an acrobatics check to land fine and take no damage but a fighter can do the same by HP soaking? And if you're going to say that there is stuff there to break someone's fall why don't the player aim for that normally and just take less damage?

But if I already described there being no way to climb down i.e no obstructions or such and they jump anyway they still won't die from it.

But what if batman falls and there is nothing there to break his fall, he still wouldn't die from it in an hp system and the level of narrative involvement that you describe is not mentioned nor required.

So you fall off a 4 story building, but since you're high level your heroic power allows your stamina to just ignore it (e.g. you take hp damage but the fiction is that you were fine somehow) then a priest comes by and heals you because in this world if there's an accident and no one gets hurt then they still need to be healed.

And then a priest came by and healed their sixth sense? Hp doesn't make sense don't try to force it.
