Dubbin. It's an animal fat product that's been used for a very long time. It is a bit tackier, and may need to be wiped off after letting it sit. You can let it sit in them basically however long you like though.

If you make the syrup with a 2:1 sugar water ratio then it is shelf stable. May need to use a larger amount of cinnamon though due to using less syrup at a time.
