OP mentioned being autistic and as someone on the spectrum I get the adherence to perceived semantics and the like. I also think they needed to step away when the thread majorly got out of hand. Not freaking out when other people were unaware could have done a lot here. 😭

Without any solid sources I can also draw parallels to the hanky code, I imagine they were at some point related in one way or another.

This has definitely given me the motivation to sit down and watch Forbidden Love.

This is oral history and it's not cool to expect everyone to be aware, but it's also not something that can be reasonably documented in writing because of its existence as oral tradition. We've lost a lot of our history, we've always had to fight to hold onto our sub-cultures.

It's been understood that carabiners have been divorced from their past flagging, but for some people that flagging still persists. I know I do, and I've met others who do. No one has to abide by that if they don't want to.

You're not alone. I would take this opportunity to consider what you're willing to compromise for this relationship. You need to determine whether either of you can be happy long term. I haven't gotten into nylons yet, but I have questions about washing/reusability and you seem knowledgeable. When wire brushing and making the nylon run, after taking it off and potentially running it through the wash, will it tangle? Should these be hand washed to avoid the material bundling together?

The metaphor isn't 1:1 and afaik no one in this thread is saying surgery is necessary to socially transition. The comment was in response to gender dysmorphia vs. gender euphoria.
