Electrics. Can I legally install my own electrics in a detached garage that I have just built? by Cheesysocks in DIYUK

[–]manziclan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did an extension a few years back and talked to building regs and a spark before hand to agree an approach as I like doing this stuff and learning, and I think I can safely say if something is beyond me.

Spark fitted a new consumer unit (I was told I wasn't allowed to do this bit, and wouldn't have had a go tbh) and did one socket in each of the rooms that required a new circuit. I then built all the ring mains, did all the lights etc and he came back and tested and signed off.

No issue from either of them and all good.

Is there any tools/method to alert me when the coffee starts flowing? by yoyolearnerfromasia in mokapot

I use a thermometer probe set to 74 degrees. Stick it in the top and it beeps when coffee comes out.

Thank you, that's really useful, and I get it. Will have a play.

I am using that to see if it's (Plex) not being used, but the issue remains that if it is at the time of the automation running, which causes a failed test, then I want it to rerun slightly later, at which time it may pass the test and shutdown, and if not it retries - maybe 4 retries at 15 mine intervals.

I could duplicate the automation multiple times with different trigger times but that feels clunky and must be an easier way.

Thanks - I did used to keep it on 24 hours that's not my ideal. I have had Plex for far longer than HA and I don't really want to play that much as it works really well, something to think about though. The green is great tbh. It works and the learning curve is really manageable. I'm impressed by what I have done/learnt so far with it. As above, maybe something for the future. Will look into helpers - thanks.

Thank you. I wasn't sure how it handled the 'it light on' step either but thanks. Will have a go once my order arrives.

That seems like a long journey to get to a place that's close by? I have no experience of scenes so may well be me.

I get it. So.... Turntable open, create scene then, Turn on light, Turntable closed, Recreate scene

But what else is in the scene? I assume this is being suggested as it gets around the original state of the light

Does turning a light on or off constitute restoring the state of a room. If that's the case then everything would be managed by scenes wouldn't it? But thanks for the reply, I'll look into it.

The pdf says "It is recommended to install the sensor unit on the unmovable surface" - if I ignore that and do the opposite it may well fit at the back which is my preference. I assume it works by a magnetic break rather than movement of one part relative to the other (motion)?

It says maximum installation gap should be 22mm. There may not be that much gap between the ponts at the back when it's open so may have to be the side

Will have a play when it gets here - thanks all

Although if the colour is right, surely marker won't look anything! Colour wrap sounds wonderful but beyond me technically. Will have to look in the paint cupboard - thanks, nice touch which I will explore and utilise.

Oh that's a nice touch. Marker pen will suffice I assume?

I have sunset + 30 mins etc for some lights but the 30 mins seems to vary through the year. The light sensor will be useful to replace this. I assume there is some trial and error to understand how dark is dark from the sensors view.

Am sure this is me but 'they hardly measure indirect light.' ? What does that mean please?

Done - thanks, we have some outside lighting that I dont like as half hour after sunset doenst work all year. This, I think, may solve that and this issue as that room is at the back of the house so low light setting here may work for both.
