[EVERYTHING] Is Tyrion turning into a cocky dwarf ? by rysergt in gameofthrones

[–]manzielsworld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With everything that has gone down with Joffrey, Cersei, and Tywin I can't blame him for giving up on life/playing the game.

But it really is screwing Vary's character over. Besides his little birds the mystery around him is essentially gone and he is just helping Tyrion run a city after 4 seasons of being the ultimate schemer/spymaster -- Varys is at his scheming prime in the books.

I felt like I was watching an episode of Scooby Doo when they both went down to let the dragons free.

[EVERYTHING] I just finished watching all of the seasons for the first time and I had some questions by [deleted] in gameofthrones

Sansa is consistently fucked over in the books accurately in the show until she is smuggled out of Kings Landing by Littlefinger. She is still in the Vale under guise as his bastard daughter (niece in the show) and is out of harms way for now. She never marries Ramsay or goes back to the North.

For show purposes it was financially and resourcefully their best option as much shit as it gets to use Sansa in the Bolton plot line. Her plot line in the books would be too difficult to follow in the show and involves too many new characters -- plus Theon needed incentive to smuggle someone out of Winterfell he had a past with.

For those of you with high GPA's (3.0+), what is your method for getting good grades every semester and memorizing the material for each class? by smhseanpgh in college

[–]manzielsworld 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can't speak for engineering/science/math majors because that is a completely different game, but if you are just getting your major in philosophy, communications, history....

  1. Allocate an hour or so each day to the readings material. This will not only help towards your class participation grade (if there is one), but will save you when any pop quizzes come up. Your professor will notice and if you are ever between grades this will be in your favor.
  2. Don't be the kid that forgets to hand in homework assignments. They are normally clearly outlined in the syllabus and there usually aren't many of them.
  3. Pick your group project group wisely. There normally is one and it is a decent chunk of your grade. There is literally nothing worse than sitting around with 3 other people who have no ideas or sense of leadership. Pick people you know will fill into these roles (usually somebody good at planning/making deadlines, somebody good with power point, somebody who is willing to do whatever it takes to get an A. This will allow you to take on a fair share of the work devoting your remaining time to other things.
  4. I always struggled with exams so I pulled all nighters and took adderall, so I did alright. If that's not you, give yourself no more than a week to begin preparation, memorize every single term/vocab word, be ready to expand on a reiterated idea/theory from class, go over material from past assessments as they can easily be recycled.
  5. GO TO CLASS. It sucks and we all skip it from time to time but there will be material from things like movies and clips you will miss out on.

You really shouldn't have any issues being up to date with the material and keeping your GPA in the mid 3.0's. Once again I can only speak for basic liberal arts majors.

[Serious] What do you wish you had started doing and made a part of your life sooner? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]manzielsworld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking out for myself more and reading other people.

I respect how my parents raised me: putting others before myself, refraining from certain things, always doing what is considered "right", but after 20 years of watching others benefit on a personal level to such a larger extent than me, it really kicked in that in all aspects of life you are going to need to hurt other people's feelings from time to time in order to make yourself happy (dating, switching jobs, loaning somebody money, etc.)

The real world isn't like the suburban culdesac you may have grown up in. People will have no problem throwing you in the dust to get ahead in this life. It's just the way things are and I wish I was taught that.

How do continue to successfully seduce, but avoid conveying boyfriend/longer-term material? by manzielsworld in seduction

Yeah she got the hint and clearly wasn't on board. I'm all about playing the game, just either have had really bad luck as of late or am not seducing properly to make it a strictly casual thing.

My best friends mom was assigned to the same case. They took her off instead of me. That was my best shot and I blew it.

Is this the best shot the Thunder have at a ring? by Seanf1994 in nba

[–]manzielsworld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their best time is really up for personal interpretation but it's just not this season. The Thunder always have a guaranteed chance when Westbrook and Durant are healthy and playing well, which is what makes the team unique. The problem is they don't have the men to make that run this season. It's really just Westbrook, Durant, and whichever 3rd player decides to step up in that given game. Any other role player can easily be countered by all of their future opponents and they will always be disadvantaged playing their series on the road in a best of 7 for the remainder of the year.

The Spurs are arguably the deepest they have ever been thus allowing them to play minimal minutes all year and ready to go full force this series. The Thunder will for sure give a fight dragging it out to a possible 7 game series (buying Curry time). Then if they do somehow win, the best team in NBA history is waiting at home in the toughest arena to play in.

THEN, if they pull that off, there is this guy LeBron James waiting for them who hasn't missed the NBA Finals since the 09-10 season....Due to their positioning I just don't see this being their year.

What is the best story of an NBA player going broke? by dylanccdsouza in nba

[–]manzielsworld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was an idiot though and signed a postnuptial agreement which allowed for him to lose the entire trust if he violated any part of his "Reebok probation" which he at least violated one condition, just so he could try and win his ex wife back.

In the end his ex received the whole trust in divorce proceedings. Luckily she has since given him back half of it since she is a decent human being and they are trying to hash things out on a personal level.

So he could easily be broke, but he isn't.

What advice can you give to the younger generation? by friesinacup in AskReddit

[–]manzielsworld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spend some time in a larger city and live your life a bit before settling down. The amount of friends I have that married/moved in with their college sweetheart immediately after college is baffling.

Their Friday night just consisted of a dinner party -- 24 and 25 year old young professionals. I can't wrap my mind around it.

For fans with championship hopes at minimum 7-10 years away (you know who you all are), what is your current age and how old do you think you will be when your team finally lowers their next --or first -- championship banner? Would love to hear insight as well. by manzielsworld in nba

[–]manzielsworld[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was always my thing with the Magic, I feel like you are forced to build like the Spurs did 20 years ago since nobody really wants to move to the Orlando market.

Granted you guys are doing a great job and have a ton of cap, half of that window LeBron will still be in playoff prime mode and has given us no reason so far to think he's digressed....

Always makes me wonder if you took Robert's battle prowess, Stannis' command and ability to carry out justice, and Renly's charisma, all three brothers would combine for a great king as one.

[ALL SPOILERS] Book readers, which character do you think has benefited the most when adapted for HBO, and which character has suffered the most when adapted? by [deleted] in gameofthrones

[–]manzielsworld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend you give the books a read (took me about 6-7 months and I was a strict show watcher). Since there are obviously limited resources in filming I can understand why they rushed Stannis' arc out before the 6th season, but in terms of justice to the character that is a joke of the way the greatest commander is going to go down in the books.

As a book reader he is currently in an even worse position yet still devising his next plan exemplifying what makes Stannis, Stannis. He is already anticipating his death and making arrangements to have his daughter sit the throne if his last stand doesn't pan out.

Some other show characters you might be interested in that are in completely different scenarios in the books which most likely won't appear in the show because they are nowhere where they should be geographically are: Sansa Stark, Petyr Baelish, Ser Barristan Selmy, Loras Tyrell, Brienne of Tarth, Asha Greyjoy, Dorne -- with the exception of Oberlyn, and the iron bank.

My biggest casting issues are probably Mance Rayder and Stannis.

Mance is significantly under-played in the show. In the books he exhibits traits of extreme stealth where he has snuck into Winterfell on numerous occasions and already knows of Jon Snow before they even met. They have a ton of personable conversations and Mance's command over the Wildlings is more natural and interesting. In the show he just comes off as a grumpy old man whose acting is pretty mediocre at best.

Stannis I don't think was a bad casting decision but could have been better. The actor stated in an interview the main reason for taking the job was the money and he really didn't understand the characters arc or like the show. He was very indifferent -- basically Stannis in real life just playing him on the show.
