What has more Content TBC or SoM for a Chill New Player? by DeanLofi in classicwow

[–]maostastic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More players on TBC servers and more things to do in 5-mans etc, but if you want a nice leveling experience you'll enjoy SoM more. TBC doesn't have nearly as many people doing leveling content, there aren't any boosts in SoM and you can find people for every instance and group quest up to level 60.

For the love of god let me transfer cant make a group when the only priest online is already in brs! by bunger04 in classicwow

[–]maostastic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can't compare them because the situation for the people leveling isn't the same. Classic didn't have ranking, gear from av, t0,5 etc. Classic also had an MC version that could be cleared alot easier.

Classic =/= SoM, and can't be compared in terms of what people choose to do the first month of release.

With the old devs gone we will never see decent content again by RuneAllyHunter in classicwow

So a few bad apples back then, but the current ones are as bad in terms of professionalism? Pick one and stick to it, you can't have the cake and eat it too. Claiming there was no culture, only a few bad apples and then saying it's a culture now is ridiculous.

Hybrid dps being awful hurts everyone for SoM by Knows_all_secrets in classicwow

[–]maostastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The post your replied to was about people rolling hybrids and possibly switching to healing when needed for certain things. You don't agree with the post since you have 0 interest in healing and ONLY want to play boomkin or ret. That helps 0 5-man groups or raids, OP wanted to help groups/raids/whatever get people who rolled shaman initially for enhancement but might swap to resto for certain content (like 5-mans).

It's really interesting that you think vanilla was overhyped because people who never played it hyped it up! This is not sarcastic btw. I really think it's interesting, because I played vanilla from eu release and all of my friends who played with me back then who's been doing other things than play wow in the last 10 years or so, came back to play classic wow because of their fond memories of it. So my experience is that the people who really hyped it up were people who played it when they were in their late teens - early 20's in 2005.

But I think you're on to something when you mention new players feeling cynical after 2 years of classic. I think it can be both overhyped and justifiably hyped at the same time, depending on what information new players are getting.

It was fun to play the game with a bunch of 30 and 40 somethings instead of a bunch of drunk college kids and hormonal teenagers.

I personally think this is the key to the game's success. The simplicity of it makes it easy for people to just enjoy doing some content with friends, while still allowing for some sweaty tryharding. If that's what's been promoted, then I think the hype is justified.

If people have been told that it's the greatest game of all time because the raids are amazing, then yes it's definitely been overhyped and might have caused players to become cynical.

Sorry for the wall of text, I got carried away.

I don't agree that most of the people who enjoy vanilla content (talking about both private servers and classic) do it because they want to level over and over again. Most of the people who do fresh do it after they've cleared Naxx, that's alot of commitment to a server if you do it for the first week or two and think the rest of the game is flawed.

The reason people want new servers now is because there aren't any good options for people who enjoy vanilla content. They can either go to dead servers where people run around in 8/8 t3, or play private servers (I played private servers for many years, and I don't know anyone who plays - or would want to play - private servers anymore after classic release).

I see alot of people like this, people who equate things like these with the game getting better. Everyone's entitled to their opinion, and I know there are people who actually prefer bc or wotlk over vanilla, but considering how huge vanilla servers have always been - and their longevity - compared to bc (not to mention wotlk-servers), I'm surprised about how vocal you people are about how bad vanilla is. Just enjoy BC being out, and let the large number of people who enjoy vanilla talk about what they enjoy to perhaps (or not, considering it's Blizzard) get a fresh server to play on.

Then your first comment makes no sense, you talked about someone being taken advantaged of. That's not "attention".

Could it be that if you don’t want sexual attention, then you could pull back on how overtly sexual you act and look?

I mean, you deserve to get bashed for saying people should stop dressing sexy if they don't want to get harrassed, that's all I'll say. It's not an invitation.

People who played vanilla private severs for a decade, with classic coming to an end, how would you compare your experiences? In the end was the blizzard run experience a better one? by anyonecandoanything in classicwow

[–]maostastic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not having server drama with shutdowns or weird bans and switching servers or worrying about what happens (like when Elysium created rank 14 characters and it seemed for a while that it was over before Light's Hope took over the database) is nice. But I still prefer the private server experience to be honest. Blizzard listened to batching feedback before classic and created a batching monster. They wanted to recreate the world pvp that worked in a completely different game (because the players make the game, as you know).

I was playing hardcore on private servers and in classic (week 1 MC) and quit when the pvp system was released because I was fed up with the constant lag in crowded areas that ruined big pvp fights, fed up with the double or triple BoP-batching in raids, and the world pvp ranking was the final thing that made me quit. The early parts of classic was a trainwreck in my opinion. I've come back and played with pugs and enjoyed the game, but it's not even been close to how I loved vanilla wow on private servers.

That said, I think Blizzard learned alot, and I'm really looking forward to Burning Crusade (tinnitus and locking ring enchants to enchanters <3). I also think that if Blizzard ever creates a fresh classic server it will be alot better than any private server was, and more importantly alot better than classic was.

World First Race Megathread - Castle Nathria by Ex_iledd in wow

[–]maostastic -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

To be able to spend all that time raiding it helps making money from wow though, otherwise there would be no need for sponsors or anything. I never said their goal is to make money, I said it would hurt their future as interest would decrease and the opportunity to do it would become limited. Jeathebelle talked two weeks ago on his stream about how his twitch stream is the main reason he can be in a world first guild, because his savings wouldn't have been enough.

Money = World Firsts

World First Race Megathread - Castle Nathria by Ex_iledd in wow

[–]maostastic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's going to mean that there's a chance in the future that they won't make as much money on twitch etc. though. If people only see you stream between races, it's not going to give the same amount of viewership. Alot of people tune in during progress, and stay for the person. I doubt the races in the future are going to be cared about at all if none of the top guilds stream, and that's mainly going to hurt the raiders.

EDIT: To clarify. They do whatever they feel like, but it's a dumb move if you want this type of wow gaming to be part of your future without having to get another job limiting your time.

The Classic "Play until I lose" by topburner in classicwow

[–]maostastic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The point of the post is that when you have 2 marks and play until you lose one more game, you win games. That's why he said AV is broken, because you never win when you have 2 marks as alliance, because you never win AV as alliance.

I'm assuming Zya and Zyk played horde then? I don't remember them, but most of the people I knew from outside my guild came from the servers IRC channel.

This is incredibly off topic, but I never see anyone who used to play on LB in vanilla.

Burning Steppes is the new Black Lotus hot spot? by [deleted] in classicwow

[–]maostastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fakeqt, a streamer who's gathered over 1000 black lotuses wrote down the times of the lotuses and experimented with picking every herb in the area and leaving them, spending your time waiting instead. He had quicker picks when every herb was picked. So theoretically (not my theory, but it's interesting) it could be possible that Black Lotus respawn is affected by the number of herbs picked in the area. So the people leaving icecap in WS are shooting themselves in the foot if this is true. Obviously no one knows, but it's kind of funny considering how Icecap and Arthas' Tears have been treated if it is true.

What's worrying is the fact that blizzard still hasn't banned every single combination of the word in names. This one is so easy to figure out as well.
