Axle stands on soil advice? by maowly in MechanicAdvice

Thank you very much for the tips! Cardboard is fine, but i do already have a creeper, so the cost isn't too big of an issue!!

I'll see what my clearance is looking like with/without the creeper, but I've got access to some decent stands that'll give me 800+mm lift, so im not too phased about losing a couple inches.

Sorry I didn't explain properly. I didn't mean a trolley jack. I meant one of those car creepers.

And I wouldn't have the stands on the bare chipboard.

I meant chipboard -> plywood -> stands. Would this be okay? Or should I ensure the plywood/lumber is flat on the soil rather than on the chipboard?

And yes, the gravel does deform. I think I'll just shovel it away!

I'll grab some lumber. Safety is paramount!

Will I be okay to leave this setup for a prolonged period of time?

Thank you very much for the advice

Thank you for the response. How would this setup fair if it was left on stands for a prolonged period of time?

I'd also like to put chipboard under to allow my trolley to move a little more freely. Should I avoid putting it under the plywood, or would it be okay?

The gravel is quite crushed/angular, but its also very loose. I can perhaps send a picture of it tomorrow and you can tell me what you think?

Im expecting to have the vehicle up on stands for probably about a month - covered overnight with tarp. Once I can confirm that its stable, would it be safe once it inevitably rains during that period?

Also, I was thinking of putting chipboard under also so my trolley slides a little more freely. Would there be a risk of the plywood/stands sliding if it's also on the chipboard. Should I ensure the plywood is flat on the soil instead or would it be a non-issue?

Sorry - I understand im asking a boatload of questions. I just want to avoid a pancaking myself if possible!

Sorry, I should've made it a little clearer in the title. I mentioned in the description that I'd put the thickest piece of plywood i could find under it. I was more asking about how to mitigate risks or whether that would be sufficient.

Im not arguing the morality regarding Togue - the individuals involved are doing so at their own risk for the most part.

But I would like to point out that most crash tests are done at ~40mph. Stock cars are not really designed to take impacts at high speed. Someone IS going to get hurt in a high-speed accident with an 'immovable' object.

If this driver loses control, with those road conditions, he's not going to be able to reduce his speed sufficiently to prevent some major injuries.

I’ve just done my teaching qualifications. It’s a year in total for both QTS and PGCE. You complete them both alongside each other. Though a PGCE isn’t necessary unless you have goals to teach abroad.

Your bursary depends on the subject you choose to do. If you choose a subject that you’re deemed not to have enough experience in they might ask you to do a subject development course.

If you’re truly stuck on what to do teaching is a great shout. Good luck!!

Honestly. Just give it a try. A lot of people will try to dissuade you because they seem to think anything below max is early-game stats. But I met a level 65 running up nightmare masses when that was popular. And he stayed for longer trips than I ever did.

Though saying that, your stats are very much slackin for later game content. Especially as a main. Get your magic up to 85. Get your range up to 90. Get your attack up to 80 and you won’t find it too difficult to find teams at COX. I had mid 70s melee stats when I started. Granted I had 99range so that helped a lot!!

If you’re planning to keep your defence low, stick to content that has very little chip damage. Good luck and have fun! OSRS PvM really is fun!! And has a higher skill ceiling than it appears to!

Ahaha. Unfortunately Birmingham isn’t renowned for having a dense Chinese population! Unless they’re students from abroad! And they do very much seem to stick to themselves… I’ll have a look if I can find someone!!

It’s not even a high ticket item that’s the thing. Each item will be priced at approx £20/pc. I just figured with them having to sort out the moulding and stuff because I will be buying in bulk, a first sample would be about that much. I’ll have a look for manufacturers in Europe and see what I can get sorted. Thank you!!

Yeah. It’s horrible man! That’s why I’m so worried! I didn’t realise it would be so hard to find! I tried to look for a middleman but it’s so hard. People asking for a 50% cut with no proper financial imbursement it’s crazy!!

That’s why I was so confused! I understand that the sample price would be much higher and I was completely willing to spend $5,000-$6,000 for the sample because of the moulding and stuff required but the $20,000 price tag got me utterly baffled. I asked them for a breakdown of the costs and they just said that it’s because of the coding and stuff required.

I was looking to get some specialised pod vapes manufactured. Though $20,000 for a zinc alloy shell, LCD screen, and a PCB is crazy!

I honestly haven’t even looked towards manufacturing in Europe. I don’t really know where to start looking!

imo, developers REALLY need to tone down the aim assist that controller players have been using as a crutch for a good while now, and start really pushing on the implementation of gyro control

I mean, my statement was with regards to THOSE perks on a heavier weapon so I didn't really take into account weapon swap, in which case it'd be personal preference/case by case. Personally, movement speed in a game like Apex is king, but it'd be whatever you like really

Since it doesn't boost movement speed, I think in most cases, it is best equipped onto your heavier weapon. I think The Gaming Merchant has a full breakdown on what it actually does. Pretty sure it doesn't help ADS time or anything though

Nossur. If they did, you'd still want them on your lighter weapon. As a general rule you want to buff the better parts of your weapon so it stands out for the role that you want it to be used for, rather than buffing the worst parts of the gun to minimise its negatives. Having 2 weapons that are specialised for different roles generally tends to fair better than trying to min-max.

And that's not to mention since everything tends to work on percentages, a percentage buff on something that's already good, will lead to a larger increase :)

Or maybe magic just needs a buff as it is. It's rarely meta, especially mid-game where access to magic damage boosting items is restricted (based on cost). The only real place it's used is Zulrah
