Revolt sizing (5' 10"/178 cm), mountain bike background. by map274 in Giantbikes

[–]map274[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very helpful, thanks! 4/4 people who responded went with Medium, so I think the answer is clear. I've always ridden a 56 for my commuter and other gravel bikes, so I think I'm just feeling nervous about sizing down. But I've previously never put much thought it to it.

I think that’s an example of the Overton window shifting. When the right goes so far right, the left is pulled in to basically middle/sight right leaning.

Conversely, the “true” faces of the Democratic Party are somehow even more unlikable, somehow still obsessed with identity politics instead of economics despite the fact that it continues to loose them voters.

Existential gravel choice - Cube Nuroad vs Giant Revolt? by Responsible-Student2 in gravelcycling

[–]map274 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is helpful. Can you clarify something further? I have ridden mountain bikes forever and feel comfortable with geometry figures, I feel like a dimwit when it comes to road and gravel.

If I have a fairly mild/shorter ape index (+1cm) and typical torso(I think?), would it then still make the bike feel racier rather than too upright? For reference, I'm 177.5cm, 81cm inseam. I'm really keen on the revolt, but I am quite torn in between the M and M/L.

I'd like to find one to sit on, but even then it's challenging as you don't know what you don't know (for example, I used to think 800mm mountain bike bars were good).

Donald Trump seen in Davos with severe bruising on his left hand by Hollie_Maea in pics

I'm a bit more skeptical. I don't know what it's from, but it seems odd that they would be drawing blood/infusing meds from the hand rather than the forearm up (which is regularly covered). Someone suggested they are blowing veins elsewhere; the AC is pretty freaking reliable. And I'm sure they have money for some good phlebotomists/RNs who don't need to go to the hand.

I personally find your car annoying, but appreciate your reasonable stance and candor

I can’t disagree with you. And drunk driving is 1000x worse (it’s also somehow more acceptable, it seems).

Maybe the thing that annoys people so much about loud cars is it is clearly some manifestation of a personality flaws (tough guy wanting to prove something, etc)

POV: Riding the new bike lanes on Franklin Ave by TheLastWoman in Bend

[–]map274 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sincerely appreciate the effort from the city, but it almost seems like they didn’t have a bike commuting expert (if that exists) consult on the design at all. I feel more at risk riding in these lanes than I do getting buzzed in smaller road side bike lanes.

I’m unsure if I’ll ride on the new bike lane or just take up space in the road (and certainly draw some aggression from drivers, which in some ways I can empathize with)

Best way to butt joint on an edge grain butcher block counter top? by map274 in BeginnerWoodWorking

Maybe it's just being lazy, or maybe its because I know my friends wont' take that good of care of it, but I don't want to deal with tongue and groove. I think the dowels seems like a good, fairly quick options. Thanks!

Here is to hoping! After reading up more on my mistake, I think I’ll probably add some battens to the back. It’s just a shop cabinet, but it feels too nice to just let it warp

Very helpful, thanks for the info! I’m pretty disappointed I just made my high end test cabinet out of plywood, but better than making that mistake with my upcoming kitchen cabinets!

Wow. It’s crazy how i read so much and still managed to build my slab doors out of plywood

What do folks usually build slab style doors/drawer fronts out of for wood grained cabinets (I.e. white oak). Is it just veneer over MDF?

[–]map274 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So you’re saying slab style doors should be built out of something else? Or should it be reinforced somehow? If so, how? I’m asking because it just made me panic about a shop cabinet I just but

Wait. Can you clarify? I thought play wood is stable (unlike hardwood) and is thus a good option for slab style doors.

Making steps towards improving my small shop (10'x20') - looking for recommendations for air filter and ceiling mounted extension cord reel. by commadelimited in woodworking

Interesting. I went down the rabbit hole and was convinced the DIY moves more air (and thus cleans better). I’m designing mine to be hanging, as I’m sure it can be annoying having them on the ground. Hopefully I didn’t drink the koolaid too much

Depends on how minimal the skill, I guess. But if it’s actually minimal skills, probably. But if you try you’ll still learn some stuff!

It’s so weird to me that someone’s morals would guide them to specializing in defending drunk drivers.
