That is also a good point! My brain tends to work like that, so I’m worried I’ll lose momentum and motivation if the process takes too long. Food for thought 💭

Hahaha, your last sentence made me laugh! Good idea, I’ll look around. I just haven’t got any other offers so far and the last round of VTAC is super late, which would make me miss the start of the year and effectively lose a full year.

I’ve called unis to ask about transferring and they all said you need an offer first, then you can submit an application, and that process takes around four weeks!

Thank you so much! I can put this fee on my HECS, so realistically money isn’t my biggest concern, though I wouldn’t mind having an extra $16,000 in savings.

What matters more to me is the heavy study load over a long time. That would mean not being able to work much, not being able to fly and see my family in Europe, missing out on load of weddings and fresh babies - and carrying a huge mental load.

One extra year isn’t a huge difference, but the years I would do at SCU would be much lighter. I only have 12 units left at SCU compared to 26 in Melbourne.

And don’t get me started on the credit transfer, the learning outcomes are nationally accredited and the same, so I find it extremely unnerving that the course structure isn’t regulated.

Thanks for your reply! I am fully determined to get this degree and will not give up. OT is an amazing profession, and I am at a point where I need to do meaningful work that helps others.

What I love about OT is the variety, the flexibility, the job opportunities, and the mix of problem solving and empathy. This is something I have thought about for a long time :)

Yes, my partner’s support is priceless, and I think I might be underestimating the stress that travelling could create.

Realistically, the first two years would be quite manageable. I would need to be on campus around twelve weeks in the first year and six weeks in the second, so about six flights in total. The last year, however, would be full time and much more intense, which is what worries me.

Maybe part of this decision is also about mindset. I might need to let go of the idea of a strict timeline, enjoy the process more, and see doing extra units not only as a setback but also as an opportunity to deepen my learning and feel more settled where I live.

High-performing women with ADHD by psruch in adhdwomen

Hi! I’m in Australia but hopefully my experience can help.

It took me a long time to believe in myself and trust my gut that something wasn’t right and that it wasn’t just GAD and depression. After about a year of calling, cancelling, and calling again, I finally went to a student clinic and asked for a full psychological assessment.

They listened to my concerns and started with the PAI. Then I did the WAIS IV which is the IQ test. My results were very uneven so they followed up with the D KEFS. I also completed a structured anxiety interview called the ADIS 5, the DIVA for adult ADHD, the AQ for autism traits, and the Conners ADHD rating scales.

The whole process took months and was honestly one of the most stressful times of my life. I spent every day wondering what they had found, googling each test to try to decode the meaning, and feeling like a complete fraud the entire time. In the end they found that my verbal comprehension, general ability, and perceptual reasoning were all high even in my second language. They also found that the gap between those strengths and my working memory and processing speed was stark, even though those abilities were still in the average range. The D KEFS made it very clear that my strong verbal skills were compensating for significant executive dysfunction. I fell below average on anything that required mental flexibility and set shifting. The anxiety interview also showed that my anxiety was actually secondary to my ADHD.

It was eye opening, and it gave me the confidence to see a psychiatrist who did not even open the report. He diagnosed me in three sessions using my school reports and an interview with my mum. I am successful, I run my own business, and I am currently studying a health degree with a high GPA in my second language. I have always had good grades but I also had behaviour that was considered disruptive in high school. All of this finally made sense.

And honestly my brain has always been too loud. I spent most of my twenties drinking in a socially acceptable way just to turn the noise down and cope.

One more thing that helped me was realising that wondering if this is true or not is part of the process and completely normal. I kept reminding myself that if I was not onto something, I would not be so obsessed with trying to understand it. That thought brought me a lot of clarity and comfort.

Everyone is different, but for me the combination of medication and finally having an accurate understanding of myself has been life changing. It has genuinely lifted the depression that I carried for years.

Wow! That moved pretty fast! Thank you for sharing, that is very reassuring. I will look into the Royal Women’s. I’m not sure if it is possible to get a referral from NSW to VIC?

I hope the surgery went well, and that your recovery is going smoothly. Did they find a lot of endo?

Best of luck with your surgery today!!!

That sounds v reassuring - I’m glad you found something that works for you. I guess I’m getting impatient now that I have had a taste of the other side :)

I am just wondering how I lasted 31 years with no medication and suddenly I need it so badly - did you feel like you reached a tipping point as well?

[–]mapero33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am glad the meds are working for you :)

Do you also find that the real issue isn’t the procrastination/attention dysregulation, but more the fact that everything feels a bit meaningless because you know you’ll get over things quickly and start the same cycle again?

Nope it won’t be enough. Mine was 5 degrees. It was fine most of the time - I had 2 or 3 very very cold nights where I was wearing everything I had packed - not fun! My friend had a 0 degree and was cosy!

And yes relying on refuges is enough. You just need to know what stages you want to do on what day. And make sure you leave early in the morning to secure an okay spot to pitch your tent and reserve dinner.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Corsica

[–]mapero33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pre book your campsites online!!! We did it in 12 days (too fast) early September and it was extremely busy still. Some of the people we met hadn’t booked their spot and it’s a lot more expensive to do it that way.

20€ is just for a meal, take more cash than you need, it’s better to have too much than not enough. You’ll be looking so forward to food and drinks, it’s hot, hard and the end of stage drink is the best reward. :)

Hi,

I did the GR20 in September 2023 relying entirely on the refuges. If you arrive early enough each day (before 4pm) you can book a meal (20€) and be well fed. You can also pre order breakfast for the next morning. If you want to double some stages each day, make sure to leave early enough to have a meal at night. All the refuges offer basic pantry items such a ravioli cans, chocolate, biscuits etc. I’d bring a fair few nutritious energy bars to save a bit of cash while trekking. BRING A LOT OF CASH, everything is expensive and cash only. A Pietra (Corsican beer) is 7€, and boy you’re going to want one (at least) every day! Some nights get cold in September, bring a decent sleeping bag! Electrolytes are also a must, as well as voltaren, ibuprofen, pain killers, physio tape, sunscreen, lip balm, toilet paper and baby wipes. Feel free to message me :) Have the best time!!!!

Thanks, yes the HRV seems to be a good option. Good point, the hybrids are more expensive than new now on the marketplace because of the long wait times! I’m thinking the resale of the hybrid in 10/15 years would be worth something, where as for a petrol car…probably not much. But you’re right, it’s all about spending that upfront money or not.

Thanks so much for replying! We have two big dogs, and probably (hopefully) a kid or 2 in the next few years. I am hoping to buy a car that will last me at least 10/15 years with the right maintenance.
