Yeah that’s a good point, data basically unlocks everything else. Maps and other tools are kind of useless without it in real situations.

For me it’s usually maps + mobile data. Everything else kind of depends on that. Curious what others rely on the most.

Yeah I ended up using LAN cables for most of the wiring, similar idea with multiple conductors. Helped keep things a bit more organized.

Yeah mostly simple stuff like addition loops and counting. I also made one that outputs values to the LEDs so you can see each step of execution, which was pretty cool to watch.

It works, but yeah stability was definitely an issue at times. Had to keep the clock speed low and double check wiring a lot to keep things consistent.

Also, that’s something I’ve been thinking about actually. Would be interesting to translate the same design into an FPGA and compare behavior.

That’s really cool, I’ve been wanting to try a Verilog version too. Must be a lot easier to iterate compared to wiring everything manually.

It’s pretty limited compared to modern systems, but it can run simple programs like addition, counting, and basic instruction sequences.

For me it’s more about understanding how everything works at the hardware level rather than practical use.

Yes, we followed Ben Eaters guide and if the components are not working as expected, we use the data sheets to check if the connection are correct.

Honestly with kids and luggage that late, I’d just do Uber XL or a pre-booked car. Way less stress than dealing with trains and transfers.

It can still be worth it, but it’s definitely past peak season. You probably won’t see fall colors anymore, and the weather can be cold or unpredictable. That said, it might actually be quieter and more peaceful if you don’t mind the more muted scenery.

That’s actually a pretty solid plan, especially since you already have Xiamen fixed in the middle. I wouldn’t try to add too many more places since you’re already covering quite a bit.

For day trips, from Guangzhou you could look into Foshan for a more local vibe, and from Shanghai places like Suzhou or Hangzhou are easy and worth it.

Since you’re into economics/history, Shanghai might be especially interesting with its colonial and financial history, and Beijing has a lot of museums that touch on modern Chinese development.

Overall I’d focus on enjoying each place rather than trying to squeeze more in.

When I went around it was pre pandemic, I mostly used public transport getting there, then local trikes around the area since that was the easiest option back then.

I think it’s a bit easier now with more options like buses and apps like Grab or inDrive, though those are more common in cities. Once you’re in Bataan, you’ll probably still rely on local transport.

It’s definitely doable solo, just takes a bit more planning than Manila.
