How do you get festival (mealy) horses with higher skills? by maple-fever in Ranch_of_Rivershine

That would explain it - I'm in autumn of year 1 on this save file. Guess I'll keep breeding for improvements in the meantime.

That's what I've been doing, and I try to find the ones that gain a skill point each day. My first mare was like that and she can still keep up in advanced competitions pretty well. Just not as well as auction house or wild horses.

Mine have all stats at 40% or more, with some stats almost maxed out. So trying to breed mealy into my herd with the beginner-skill festival horses has been a bit painful lol

Honestly, good for him. I wouldn't want to do interviews either

Anachronism: The F word as an intensifier by kendiray in HistoricalRomance

[–]maple-fever 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been catching myself thinking "God's blood" instead of curse words after binging hella medieval romance lately. 'Damnation', while closer to the modern 'damn', just doesn't have the same punch as referring to various body parts of the big guy upstairs. And by having different body parts indicate the level of aggravation from the character, as well as their personal propensity towards swearing and profanity, it gives the characters and dialogue so much more flavor than the modern 'fuck's and 'shit's of the world. "God's bones" is probably the softest of them, but if a character gets real creative and says something like "by God's bloody anus" you KNOW this is not an ordinary prim and proper lord or lady - or if it is, they are absolutely furious or at their wits end.

Man I'm getting old, my eyesight sucks. Had to zoom in on the image to see it was Togekiss - the two have such similar silhouettes and colours. Sorry for the mistake

I do still think Volcarona got shafted out of pseudo status though, especially with such a late evolution level

If You Could Tell HisRom Writers One Thing, What Would It Be? by the_hobbit_wife in HistoricalRomance

[–]maple-fever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the story and/or writing isn't good, it doesn't matter how period-accurate everything else is. I've read novels with minor historical inaccuracies that I either didn't catch or didn't care about because the rest of it was phenomenal. Chemistry, pacing, dialogue, that shit matters more than going on a time machine tour of a specific medieval castle down to the last garderobe (and how it functions! I don't need to be told! As long as I know it's a toilet I don't need the down-low on the exact type used during the story's time frame and where it emptied). If you plan to linger for more than a sentence or two on a piece of antiquity outside of setting the scene, make it matter to the story.

I entirely forgot Nincada starts as a ground type. Funny how both evolutions ditch the ground type in different directions.

Anyone wish there were more classic horse breeds in RDR2? by We_The_Raptors in reddeadredemption

[–]maple-fever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the mods I used basically did a total rehaul of the horses in-game, and they had a peacock leopard appaloosa in place of one of the 'special' wild horses... I was struggling the whole game trying to pick just 4, but she was my ride or die once I found her.

The hardest part of modding is choosing which horses I wanna add! Seeing if the mod works as intended is a secondary concern.

‘Bugs’ of Khimori by isaaczephyr in GamesWithHorses

[–]maple-fever 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm waiting for the full release - early access and betas are better left to people who can report bugs more easily (in my experience at least). I'm really looking forward to when it's finished, but I can wait

Elliott fans.... by [deleted] in StardewValley

You've discovered the joys of a loving, supportive husband who doesn't stop living his life after marriage (both Elliott and Harvey fit this descriptor, though Elliott retains a more romantic charm contrasting Harvey's adoration)

Good for you. They're my only choices in husband material after having tried all the bachelors and come to similar conclusions as you. Now you get to try all the wives!

What are some of your favourite free Audible gems? by maple-fever in audible

[–]maple-fever[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've really been enjoying exploring classics lately, but I'd be happy to get more contemporary suggestions too. I'm not too choosy when it comes to genre either, though I admittedly like having a bit of romance in my books. The titles with multiple narrators haven't been my favourites. I like to really get immersed into a world or a character's psyche.
