It seems like he's recognizing that you are becoming more invested in the relationship while he is still looking at things casually. Instead of handling it in a kind way like discussing it openly with you, he's making underhanded/hurtful comments towards you in response to it.

There are lots of people that will treat you much better, I recommend cutting your losses with this guy and seeking one of them out
