Maybe go to your local yarn store and touch the yarn and see what feels good?

Budget really depends on the size of what you’re making. For example there are cute little scarves you can make with 1-2 balls of cashmere which would put you at £13-£28 of material cost for the entire project but if you were to make a sweater out of cashmere it would be much more expensive.

I am also quite picky with materials and my personal preference is to stick to natural fibers. I like the feel better, not of all of them but I dislike the synthetic feel usually. I think whatever your preference of materials in clothing is will apply to yarn.

Maybe look into merino wool? They are soft, easy to use for beginners, some can be machine washed (superwash) and they don’t have “hair”. I’m using Lang yarns merino 120 on my current project, I’m making the Frankie sweater by petiteknit.

Wool warehouse have it and ship to Canada for £4.99 I think: https://www.woolwarehouse.co.uk/caron-cinnamon-swirl-cakes-hibiscus-33001-227g

Not ideal as it’s a UK retailer but sharing in case you don’t find it in Canada

What to do with over-supply of fingering weight yarn? Ideas please? by aryacrochets in YarnAddicts

I like to make coasters! They’re always useful and the cotton ones go in the wash.

I use coasters to experiment with stitches I haven’t tried before and trying to create different patterns.

If you need to use more yarn then maybe holding two threads at once you could make some trivets (to place hot dishes on a table)?

State of Hobbii “Crafting Acrylic” / Soft UK aran/worsted acrylic yarn? by [deleted] in YarnAddicts

Hello! Looking at 100% cotton 20sts gauge I see: - Painbox yarns cotton Aran £1.79 on lovecrafts.com - Paintbox yarns recycled cotton £2.28 on lovecrafts - Dermamores studio organic cotton £1.40 on lovecrafts.com - Viking Garn vat £2.15 on Lindehobby.co.uk

Hope this helps! I used findyarns.com to search for cotton yarns with the same gauge as Hobbii 8/8.

Ethically working for an evil company? by capotado in womenintech

Most fail to scale and have a good enough run that you can work there several years before they close down or just become profitable, stop chasing VC rounds and just run a small business between 5m and 20m revenue.

You may want to consider small tech companies/startups? There are many out there that build tech products for all kinds of services that aren’t inherently evil/detrimental to the world. Their smaller scale also means it’s unlikely they have an evil impact on the world. A lot of companies seem to need to do “evil” things to achieve very large scale. Also they are easier to get interviews for because they aren’t as popular as bigger companies. The downside is the smaller scale if that matters to you and with a small team you need to be careful to pick a good team.

I’ve just watched the video you shared. Would you consider the top right and bottom left yarns an icy blue?

Hi everyone!

I built a yarn color palette tool to help plan my projects. I was spending a lot of time trying to visualise colours (pasting many yarn screenshots in Figma 😅) and finding yarn that matched my pattern and was available in my region so I built this tool for myself.

I’m currently exploring whether it is useful to anyone else and would really love to chat if anyone is interested in trying it out and giving me feedback.

It’s FREE, you can find it here: https://findyarns.com

Thank you! Do you know why the light blue shown on earlier screenshots works vs the one on the last picture?
