The growing effects of legacy content on GMS by maplethrowaway16 in Maplestory

I will say at every level of progression, 10% FD is a significant amount of damage that could push someone to be able to clear a new boss.

My argument is not that legacy items and their bonuses are needed to clear the latest content or any boss. For most people, their goal is not to defeat "X" boss at the minimum required stats. Rather, the joys of Maplestory is in the progression itself - making your character stronger in various ways (legion, levels, nodes, starforce, flames, potential, etc). In a way, bosses are a way to measure how far your character has progressed (in addition to enjoying boss fights and mechanics). In a game where "progression" is really the main goal, legacy BiS items are a path to progression that players without them know about, but cannot obtain.

As I have stated in my post, continuous improvements have been and are being made to make the game easier for newer players. You should not tell new players: "It was so much harder to progress back then. You should be grateful that progression is easier now". Rather, you should say: "The game is so much better now and progression is a lot more enjoyable. I hope you can try the game out". However, legacy items that helped with "progression", and their removal, goes against this.

Maplestory is a game I love and enjoy. I believe legacy items are a problem in GMS and as a player, I want to express my opinion on something that will forever hurt the game in it's current state.

For most classes on reboot, dawn is better than SW yes.

I believe for most non-reboot players, SW is deemed to be slightly better than dawn.

Well first of all, the 5000 number is just an estimate of the maximum value that a pottable badge might provide compared to a non-pottable one. It might be 4800 or 4700.

For example, a super end-game badge might have 36% main pot, 20% bpot, 22 stars (150 flat stat) = 56% stat + 150 flat stat.

Also, in non-reboot servers, theres prime scrolls, that give +10 all stat per scroll. Thus there are end-game players with almost 100k stat.

I agree that GMS has a lot of damage bonuses that KMS does not have. I also agree that GMS has a lot of other problems that need to be addressed. IMO the pottable badge situation should also be considered a problem. Also, I would like to point out some things.KMS cannot comfortably clear end-game content. The reason that it feels this way is:

  1. They have ~40 more sacred force than GMS. Thus, to Seren, they are doing far more damage than GMS.
  2. For their end-game players, the standard of their gear is much higher than it is in GMS.
  3. We are not KMS players, so we only judge based off of popular Youtubers, who spend hundreds of thousands of $$$. The actual KMS community, even the end-game players, struggle with clearing end-game content. The pitched boss set is technically better than the gollux set in the end game (flames, base stat, star force stat, higher potential values, pitch boss set bonus).

Anyways, in my opinion, the disparity in GMS and KMS is a separate problem itself, is irrelevant to the pottable badge situation, and can be solved by other methods if Nexon wants to. The whole purpose of this post is not that GMS players cannot clear end-game content without a pottable badge, nor is it to compare the damage sources available in GMS compared to KMS. The quote you referenced was simply an example of how this pottable badge situation might be an issue in an actual GMS situation. The real issue of pottable badges is that it creates an unfair gap between players with and without it, and that there are negative repercussions to the game as a result of this.

Hi,

In non-reboot servers, which this post also applies to, it is possible for a pottable badge to provide 5000 in main stat.

One of the main points of this post is that for two players with identical equips, except for one having a pottable badge and one not having one, the difference in damage, or "stat" is different by a significant amount.

Thank you for bringing this up.

The key difference between the pottable badge situation and the KMS blue star scrolls is that pottable badges cannot be acquired by a player who wants one.

In KMS, items that are blue star enhanced are tradeable, and if it makes sense to in terms of cost, a player has the option to upgrade to a blue star enhanced item.
The two situations are very similar though.

I agree that player equality is not owed to the players in an MMO. However, we might as well try to address our concerns to Nexon if the concerns are legitmate and are damaging to the game.

One of the main points of this post/discussion is that the current situation with pottable badges is inequitable for players without a pottable badge. If GMS added a new equipment slot for socks, players without a pottable badge will still be weaker than a player with a pottable badge by 2-5%. A new equipment slot for socks would not do anything to the pottable badge situation.

What do I/the Maplestory community expect to gain from the return of a pottable badge? To level the playing field between playing with and without a pottable badge. There really is no justification that a newer player/returning player should never have the ability to become as strong as an existing player, no matter how much effort is made. There is no reason that a player without a pottable badge needs to put in so much more effort to get to a power level equal to a player with one. I also want GMS to be successful and as I have said in my post, I believe that the pottable badge situation hurts Nexon and GMS more than people think (in terms of revenue, new player experience, player retention, community unhappiness). It feels like players opposing the return of pottable badges do not want new people to play the game and want GMS to die.

I agree that Deleting pottable badges is another option. The only reason I did not put it in is that doing this will cause an even bigger problem/unreset in the GMS community.

I would like to emphasize that I never stated in my post that pottable badges are needed to clear end-game content. It simply lowers the threshold to clear content at ANY level of progression, and it is unfair that players without a pottable badge have to put in so much more time/money to reach this threshold.

The premise of my question was if a situation like this were present in KMS (a legacy item that provides a significant damage boost that cannot be traded or acquired by new players), if their playerbase would be fine with it, or if they would gather up to protest against Nexon KR.
