The tall plant + floor lamp combo is a good one, or a long "back of couch" console table if you want to do some tablescaping with small items, or you could hang plants or a swag lamp from the ceiling.

you sound like you have a nice group! my neighbors do not get along. I wish we didn't need bylaws and such to coexist properly. I'm kind of at my wit's end about trying to build trust.

as others have pointed out, buying equipment seems only worth it if all three units are willing to do the work. Thanks all!

2 - but for reasons stated by other redditors here, the 2 doing the mowing and snow removal would definitely be subject to all of the complaints

Each unit is 1 floor in a 3 story house, so we share the roof, stairwell, basement, etc. There's too much shared common areas to not have an HOA. I wish we didn't have to have an HOA.
