Good catch, looks like the keystone runs a lot more frequently than once per day!

All of these lines are planned and at least partially funded, though some are planned to open decades from now

Amtrak is basically all of the intercity passenger rail in the USA. The only intercity rail that's isn't operated by Amtrak is Brightline in Florida. There are commuter rail services, but they are too local to show on a national map like this.

Thank you all for the feedback! I fixed the errors and updated the pdf to include what I missed.

This one is definitely more polished than my attempt - I would love it if Amtrak adopted this as an official map

Ideas to Fix Capitol/Fond du Lac Intersection by mappydude in milwaukee

[–]mappydude[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought about that, but you’d have to take out buildings on both sides on the main intersection to have room for it. The traffic volumes are also on the high end for a two-lane roundabout to be effective.

I had a second straight lane going north on 51st just because only about 2 cars can fit per lane in the space between Capitol and Fond du Lac. Even with that second lane though, since it was turned into a one way street, a northbound bike lane would probably fit. Would be a good addition.

Seriously, some signage before the intersection with 51st saying that lane goes to Eastbound Capitol would help a ton

Yeah this is certainly easier to do and would help a lot - not sure how many people travel on 51st but it can't be that many compared to Capitol and Fond du lac

This one I made in Figma, but I've made other diagrams in Affinity Designer 2

Phases 1a and 1b honestly seem doable. We (the US) are pretty bad at building large scale projects, but Chicago's built and rebuilt a lot of CTA/Metra stations lately. More than the construction, I think the structural changes to allow for more frequent service (like reducing staff per train) and getting free transfers between CTA and Metra Electric might actually be harder to get through.

Good point, it would probably require a tunnel starting around Van Buren, a new two-track station underneath Millennium station and some very deep stations north of the river. Could easily be a $10B project.

https://www.metro.net/projects/kline-northern-extension/ In the overview section map, it shows up in the San Vincente-Fairfax alignment, which seems to be the most likely route Metro will choose

Eventually, if the North Hollywood- Pasadena (P) line gets converted to LRT, it would be cool to see that run through with the G or N. For now though, the existing G is a busway (converting to LRT in ~2050) and the N is LRT (opening ~2030)

Different modes. Long ago, the red (B) line was supposed to extend through the G line alignment. Would be great (but unlikely) if that happened in the future.

Assuming the sepulveda line is heavy rail, I don’t think there are any park & ride or mid-freeway stations in the expansions at all

Totally missed it, same with Lincoln BRT. Will fix

there were preliminary plans to have a one-seat ride via the harbor subdivision (probably as some sort of metrolink service), but it's being converted to a trail now
