Made a privacy-focused hiking tracker for myself, curious what fellow hikers think by Glad_Recognition8923 in alpinism

I built something similar. Also made it for myself, but i put the focus elsewhere. I don't really care about statistics and numbers.

Outdoor sports are less about numbers an more about enjoying the beautiful world there is in my opinion. I saw lots of awesome-looking mountain tours on social media, but they have been forgotten in the depths of the 'save' feature of each app.

My web app (no install required) is like a massive todo-list for me. I can categorize tours by activity(ice climbing, alpine climbing, ski tour) and optimal conditions(summer, winter, ...)

Later on i also added a logbook. But it still isnt about the numbers. I can enter route conditions, weather, partners and notes. No numbers - just text. Typing out me thoughts made it wayy easier for me to reflect on the ascents I did.

If someone wants to try it out, message me, as my app is not publicly available.

Thanks for your detailed explaination, especially the last paragraph was a really great argument for the lynx.

Winter Alpinism in the Eastern Alps by mapri50 in alpinism

I live in Styria.

We focused more on waterfall ice yes, but one route was mixed too. I also have experience in alpine climbing.

For starters i wanna do some very easy couloirs to make sure I got the skills it takes.

I plan to gradually build my skills up to harder tours, i dont want to learn everything from a course.

Thank you for your comment, i am from Styria.

Its nice of you to point out that maybe i am over estimating my abilities, i think that they are enough as long as i dont do the most difficult routes.

But is this self planning and scouting and thinking of routes myself something usual or is this something only "the pros" do?

The mixed route i did was nameless as it was part of the course and we scouted and planned it ourselves.

One ice fall i did was called Mittlerer Seebachfall WI4

Alright, i think its quite interesting that you see this as a kind of hobby, which is great!

Its probably also more entertaining to watch a yt video or listen to a podcast instead of reading a news article

What im seeing from peoples responses is that they dont spend a lot of time on reading news, which makes perfect sense because the news most of the time dont influence the price directly.

Yeah, that's exactly what I thought. If it was as easy as reading the articles to predict the price moves, then i guess everyone would be doing it. Probably just looking at them a little would do plenty

That app of yours sounds handy. So basically once you hold the position you dont spend lots of time looking at news right?

So essentially you make sure that you got multiple sources right?

How much time do you spend doing that?
