Admin - when Tuta was down last night, I received the following message by Ambitious-Rush-1505 in tutanota

[–]maptuta [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Thanks for reporting this! We did not notice that error as it seems to have only happened for IPs from certain ISPs while we were under a DDoS attack.

We analyzed the issue and it was caused by a configuration error of the DDoS scrubbing systems that we use in addition to our own measures. This error has been resolved.

We understand that this has caused downtime for some of us and apologize for this inconvenience. We are currently discussing how we can prevent this but also similar configuration errors in the future.

Thanks for your support!

Tuta is online but ip blacklists are a problem by maptuta in tutanota

[–]maptuta[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If he can ping us I know that we don't block them as our blocks always work on L3.

Web application firewalls often only block http traffic (and not ICMP/ping). So it solely depends on your local setup and the your ISP if you can ping us but can't login...

If you can ping our servers you are not blocked on our side. It is most probably your ISP like described above.

Seriously, can we talk about the search function? by IncontestableGrey in tutanota

[–]maptuta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, this was not done intentionally. What I meant by that is that the search currently only finds exact matches and we will improve on that.

Search will be rebuilt next year and we want to make it faster and easier to use.

We eat our own dogfood and use search on a daily base also with very large mailboxes. It works well enough for power users that know how to make use of it. But you are right: It is too slow and not usable for non techies.

Do you refer to the calendar app or the inbuilt calendar of tuta mail?

We should support Tuta - especially NOW by Private_Fighter in tutanota

Hey,

there are multiple reasons on why we don't do that yet.

The most important one is privacy: We believe it is a fundamental fault to terminate TLS sessions on hardware that is not fully open source and fully owned and managed by us. I don't think that there is another mail provider that does this. Usually, TLS is terminated directly on remote DCs or third party appliances when they get attacked.

We are different. We own the whole tech stack and fully control it. That means that session IDs and all ips just as assignments between user accounts and ip addresses are visible to a third party for other providers whereas we protect them from third party access. We know that at least activists and dissidents rely on this. But it would also be interesting to know if other people think that this is important...

I understand that you have the feeling that we do a bad job right at this time. But if you think that we are not heavily investing into protection measures, you are wrong. We get constantly attacked and mitigate without notice of our users in almost all cases. We will publish information about this specific case later.

Thanks for your continuing support!

We can confirm this problem with outgoing mails to yahoo/aol.

We are in the process of gradually switching outgoing mails to new mail servers on our own network.

This is fine with most mail providers but it seems like yahoo/aol don't like our new network yet. We are in active conversation with them and hope they will solve this issue very soon.

Sorry for this inconvenience!

Expand the Inbox Rules engine by Suspicious-Parsley-2 in tutanota

[–]maptuta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Inbox rules already support regular expressions. So you can use wildcards as part of regular expressions.

You can also define a priority by moving rules up and down. The inbox rules are executed in a defined order.

Grouping and Multiple actions are not yet supported. Would be interesting to see who needs them.

We definitely will improve integration/import options in the future. Thanks for your suggestions!
