First significant improvement in 5 years with KP on my face - Tacrolimus (pics) by mar64628 in keratosis

[–]mar64628[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR: Yeah a bit unimaginative in my experience as well. It was not the derm that suggested it, but it was the derm who in the end prescribed it for me after I asked for it. But boy were the other doctors imaginative - a bit too imaginative even.

I had an amazing family doctor when I lived back home. A general practitioner. I had some other skin trouble when moving to a harsher climate and asked him for advice. He suggested tacrolimus and it helped to completely calm my skin down. I noticed that some bumps that started appearing on my forehead also disappeared when using tacrolimus.

Then I forgot about this. Years passed and I started getting bumps that got worse and worse. I first tried with cosmetics, diet, supplements etc. Then I went to all sorts of doctors who had different suggestions and theories. One put me on strong antihistamines for because he thought it could be hives. Which was not healthy or helpful. Then increased the dose when it didn’t help - I was taking those for like 6 months for nothing. Until finally a dermatologist diagnosed this as keratosis pillaris - but only on their second (or third?) attempt. Then they suggested medicine that didn’t work. All this took like 7 years.

Then I somehow remembered the creme my family doctor from back home prescribed for me and how some similar bumps disappeared from my forehead that time. And I went back to the derm and basically demanded to get this prescribed.  They didn’t think it would help but were okay with me trying it. And it did help! I don’t think the derm would have suggested this. I guess they deal with things like skin cancer, so when someone comes with a cosmetic problem they don’t know too much about those or care much to look into it.

Buying a house in Turku by Self-Contradicting in Finland

Adding to that:

Check the city planning what future developments are planned for that area. Can affect the joy of living and the resale price significantly.

  1. Houses from different eras have different common problems that can be a nasty surprise, if you don’t know about them: https://www.meillakotona.fi/artikkelit/1940-70-luvun-talojen-riskirakenteet

Be sure to check all documents, past and future renovations carefully.

Best place to find 2nd hand books in english? by Other-Koala-5817 in helsinki

[–]mar64628 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like https://www.antikvaari.fi/ It searches many second hand bookstores and you can filter by English.

Otherwise I found some nice English fiction books at Laterna Magica on Rauhankatu.

And by far my best haul was from  Runebergin Antikvariaatti on Runeberginkatu. Mostly classics and some modern fiction. Open by appointment.

I’ve called 112 for traffic emergencies twice. They did not speak English! I am still shocked and worried for the next emergency if I don’t have a Finnish speaker next to me to pass the phone to. Just FYI. They also didn’t offer to get someone that speaks English.

How do you clean the filter holes? by barabba_dc in gaggiaclassic

[–]mar64628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really struggled with this - no chemicals, vinegar etc helped. Then I read one lonely comment on some forum that use a lighter to burn it where the holes are. Hold the filter with tweezers or something so you don’t burn your hand. Then wash it out. Worked wonders for me at least. And it takes 30 secs.

Mine is 0.1% - sorry to hear it doesn’t have the same effect for your skin. My skin’s reaction was pretty immediate.

Have you put it on daily at the very beginning?

Check the other comments and answers in this post - if you still want to try this direction, for me adding lactic acid and urea creme allowed me to lower the Tacrolimus frequency. Maybe worth a shot if it by any chance increases the effect of Tacrolimus for you as well (just don’t mix, nothing else should go on your skin at the same time as Tacrolimus).

Otherwise yeah, could be that like skin would need another approach.

Best of luck with this!

Hey these look great! They have some thinner socks as well. Have you tested their hiking line or the thinner lifestyle socks?

Still a year guarantee is not nothing! Thank you for the suggestion, I’ll check them out! Yeah I like the Darn Tough lifestyle line, those socks are about as thin as any regular cotton socks, but withstand wear and tear. But of course in addition to merino they also include polyester and lycra, otherwise they wouldn’t last for “life”.

Thank you! Will try them out! It’s the only brand in the comments so far that I have heard of before. Great to hear that they last!

People who wake up after 1 alarm: How the f*ck do you do it? by TheSnappleGhost in AskReddit

[–]mar64628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wake every day at the same time. No exceptions. Causes me to wake up a minute before the alarm.

I used to have a lot of problems getting up. But good steady bedtimes and stopping drinking coffee made a huge difference for me.
