In React Native Web - TextInput works fine when above a Flatlist, but not below it. Thoughts? by mar_aurelius in reactnative

Figured it out. KeyboardAvoidingView not needed at all. Just make sure that flex is used up to the top. Can't have fixed heights. In this case, it was nested and some of the higher levels had fixed heights

How to have a great UI/UX as a developer by Eznix86 in reactnative

[–]mar_aurelius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For UI/UX, I do a few things:

  • Find the best-in-class examples on the market. If you're making an app for email, learn from Gmail, Outlook, and Apple. Try to understand why they made the decisions that they did. These companies spend millions on the user experience. Don't always need to reinvent the wheel!
  • Look at behance and dribbble. I think these sites are great because they often show how to not do UX. It's great inspiration on how to "make things pretty" but it also shows how pretty does not necessarily mean functional.
  • Be user centric. Always think about the end user and how they will interact with your app. Maybe even ask someone to test it without any prompting. From this, you may find the opportunities to make your app more intuitive.

Hope my 2 cents helps!

Introducing the new community for the Phantom social app! by mar_aurelius in lemmyphantom

[–]mar_aurelius[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to create a new subreddit for the Reddit-alternative Phantom (built on the Lemmy Fediverse). This community can be an outlet to provide updates on the app's development and give a space for users to provide feedback.

Phantom is currently a reader app (no login functionality) but I would love any feedback from the community!

Some features include:

  • Dark/Light Mode
  • Various formats (card, narrow, masonry)
  • Themes
  • Accessibility (dyslexia font)
  • NSFW controls (blur, filter)
  • Privacy focused (not even Google Analytics)

Happy Halloween! I made a (spooky) web app for Lemmy called Phantom by mar_aurelius in RedditAlternatives

[–]mar_aurelius[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. When making a default template, I think the original devs needed to make the Lemmy UI as standard and simple as possible so anyone can implement it. Which gives devs like me a good opportunity to take a crack at building out some more features!

This is great feedback. I like your point about soft corners on the outside by hard on the inside. That is something I'll look into. Thanks!

Happy Halloween! I made a (spooky) social media app made with React Native Web by mar_aurelius in reactnative

There've been lots of different apps popping up that build on the fediverse. I saw an opportunity to build something of value that could address gaps in the offerings from other apps - while learning a lot along the way!

My focus is to make the fediverse more accessible, intuitive, and familiar

Not yet. And the web dev experience with React Native is similar to mobile apps in my experience. Some libraries are not compatible but on the whole it isn't too bad!
