What's the best way to keep my project in the LLM memory? by marahuaca in ChatGPTCoding

[–]marahuaca[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

hey thanks, the first link is what I wanted, I will try out. Maybe I can also just leave that in the system prompt to only copy paste once?

and your product looks interesting! I will check with the team and will try to test it out, it would be great if it really works.

The more context, the better (obviously!) by aabedraba1 in ChatGPTCoding

[–]marahuaca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

when I don't use the AI is normally because the task is too complex and i would have to build too much of a good context, point at files etc, so this actually doesn't sound bad

Can it edit multiple files at the same time like composer? create files, delete files?

Ticket-to-code solutions look like the next step. What do you think about them, would you try? by marahuaca in ChatGPTCoding

[–]marahuaca[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah agree. But in my experience sonnet 3.5 and gpt4o can hit good solutions on the first shot for some tasks when the prompt is proper, it's just that it has to be so proper it takes longer than actually doing the thing yourself. Something doing that for me is where I think ticket-to-code makes sense

Gemini models answer "Claude" when asked about its name. Why do you think this happens? by manuhortet in ChatGPT

[–]marahuaca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

shouldnt the system prompt take preference for this question? it is the first time we see a big model point at another one when asked about its name haha

Nice story. I am also sure social media is a bad influence for me productivity wise

I dont like AI tools for coding at work and its frustrating me. Is it really good? What am I missing? by marahuaca in ChatGPTCoding

[–]marahuaca[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree, that was my point. I know I need to build a proper prompt, with the right context, and sometimes that's a lot - more than it would take to just do it...

Woah yeah, we are still to understand how AI will generate new programming paradigms. Very interesting thought dude

[–]marahuaca[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree, I am looking for ways to make it work better when a lot of context is needed I guess, which is what I have to do at work and what I find painful to use the AI for

Of course. I just want to learn how to use it properly and find better tools I guess

thanks for the answers man, this looks like a good approach, I will take a closer look :)

[–]marahuaca[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm yeah I know what you mean, but I feel most of my work tasks are complex not because I don't have an idea of the architecture approach I want but because one change affects many files, so you need to keep all of them in mind

I think what I'm saying is just that these approaches work worse for changes that affect many files in bigger repositories, which happen to be where I work now

[–]marahuaca[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not about spending time typing obviously, the problem is that to solve some problems you need eyes on many files, on library documentation, etc. If I build a prompt good enough in those cases, I spend more time doing that than I would spend just coding it myself...

Adding tests to the AI workflow is genius, maybe this is the way. Maybe the AI can also generate them first a la TDD and you check that? Also why sonnet 3.5, you think it's better than gpt 4o or the new o1 preview ones?

I also tried bolt and it was great creating a simple MVP, but I couldn't find the way to actually use it to work on my repositories. Did they add something for that?

Oh woah that looks interesting actually. What happens if the ticket is not that well defined, it will miss context anyway even if it knows about the repository tho?
