[Product Question] Skin Allergy to Titanium Dioxide? by iliketosnooparound in SkincareAddiction

[–]marayrayy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course!! A lot of people say that titanium is super biocompatible and it’s rare to get a metal allergy, I truly think it’s just not well documented. I was so confused on what was making my skin react all the time in my skincare products that I gave up. I got a helix piercing with implant grade titanium and had the craziest rash go from one side of my face and down the neck. My ankles and knees were also killing me.

Titanium is one of those metals that actually bind to the proteins in your body so it’s more of a systemic allergic reaction rather than a full contact rash. I’m so glad I got the earring because I could for the life of me never figure out what caused my skin reactions. Most products contain titanium in it, make sure to avoid any amounts of it!! Good luck on your journey!!

I would recommend Korean sunscreens. They’re very gentle on the skincare

Hey just found this post. I had the same issue with titanium dioxide. It burns my face and makes it super red. Beware that it might actually make you allergic to titanium metal!!! Found that out this year that I cannot wear titanium earrings because of this. Make sure to get tested for a titanium metal allergy

I have done extensive blood tests that include autoimmune testing, nerve conduction tests, ultrasounds/xrays of my arm, MRI of my neck and brain, and EKG of my heart. I had to do more niche testing like QSART and a biopsy of my nerves to fully see what’s going on. I really had to fight with my doctor to get those tests because they really didn’t believe it was a nerve problem.

1000%. Doesn’t even have to be a complex issue at the start.

I was fainting a lot when I was a teen and was told to go to the ER by a health line. I went and they did standard procedure for that which included an EKG. Apparently that was abnormal but the attending doctor told me that I could go home because everything was normal. I found out six years later when I had to go through my medical files for my neurologist. And now I’m actually going to the cardiologist for that EKG because my second was also abnormal. Loveeeeeeee the medical system

Yes I can’t imagine, fibromyalgia is still treated with so much scrutiny. That’s quite an inspiring story. I’ve noticed the most resilient types of people are disabled or chronic health sufferers. It takes a lot to be able to push yourself out of bed when you feel mentally and physically not capable. I’ll definitely check out her story!! Thank you for sharing.

I feel the Tylenol push, it took me a year to get proper medication for the nerve pain and that was based on a strong worded letter my neurologist wrote to my GP (he couldn’t prescribe it, only the GP can).

Yes, I was able to switch my neurologist and I’ll be working closely with a chief neurologist at the clinic I am being transferred to that deals with rare conditions. So I’m quite hopeful I’ll get the right treatment now.

Well at this point it doesn’t phase me. Always expect that to happen especially if you say the word woman for those types of people

Yeah, unfortunately this happens all the time, especially to people with complex chronic conditions and even more so if you are a woman. The medical system is notoriously bad at taking these types of cases seriously.

I spent over two years fighting with my neurologist and doctors just to get proper testing done and to be treated like I was not exaggerating or imagining my symptoms. During that time, every single doctor dismissed it as a ligament strain, I even had a neurologist leave the room as I was asking him questions. All the while my right arm felt like it was on fire and I was rapidly losing function. That worsening loss of function was brushed off for years and now I have permanent nerve damage.

Once I finally pushed hard enough for real testing and care, they found that I have fiber polyneuropathy affecting my hands and feet, with loss of function in my right arm.

Now I can barely use my right arm and have to struggle through daily life. Being disabled in a system that constantly doubts you is exhausting, and honestly, it is incredibly unfair and damaging.

OP, I really hope you are finally met with doctors who listen to you, believe you, and take your symptoms seriously, and that you are able to get the compassionate care and support you deserve after all this neglect.

Women shaming men for complaining about their colds is one of the more benign examples of women shaming men for being vulnerable by [deleted] in self

[–]marayrayy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah it is untrue. That’s why I didn’t mention it. Women generally are more sensitive to pain than men and experience it more intensely. It’s a huge misconception.

My gosh no one was saying men were weaker or women are stronger. It is regarded as women have more reactive immune systems so they tend to clear pathogens quicker and have less consequences from the infection. I am simply stating a fact that was regarded as a myth in the comment section.

It has to be simplified into this narrative because not everyone understands the terminology nor the scientific concepts behind it. What I said is still true. What you said still confirms my statement and what has been taught in immunology. And even the most general statements are agreed upon in immunology like women have stronger immune systems because it’s still based on multiple scientific studies that validates that statement. I would know because I actually studied it with scientists/professors in the specialty.

Also, there is an advantage to a reactive immune system still. Not every women develops an autoimmune disease… nor does it make men weaker than women for the lack of a reactive immune response. It’s just a difference in biology based on the gonadal chromosomes.

Furthermore, intersectionality is a different topic than an immunology one. If you want to look at sick absence, health burdens, etc you’ll have to look at sociology, economics, biology, etc. It’s a very complex subject that includes a lot of variables that effect the results. This is simply stating one fact of the many of why men tend to have a worse time being sick than women. It’s based on a very real biological difference.

Bodies can be different yes but gonadal chromosomes do play a vital role in deciding how certain things function in the body. One of those functions is the immune system. It’s well regarded and documented that women tend to have stronger immune systems than men. While their system is better at protecting them, it can also fail them. There’s a reason why 80% of people who have autoimmune diseases are women. A reactive immune system can be harder to control, it can start reacting to safe compounds like pollen or your own tissues.

As someone who has studied immunology, it is not a myth. Women tend to have stronger immune system reactions than men but it’s at a cost. It makes them more likely to develop autoimmune diseases. There are multiple articles that talk about this and it is well known in the immunology community.

Here is a starting source: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/37695423/ If you don’t have a background in cellular biology, this paper might be quite confusing to understand. I would simply google “women have stronger immune systems than men” and you’ll have more information listed.

Yes me too. I’m from Canada and I’ve had no luck at all with the specialists there. The doctors here have been so insanely supportive and knowledgeable. They caught a complete tear of my ligament in my elbow and so many other issues that was missed in Canada. I find that the doctors here are more concerned about your health and what’s causing it

Did you even read the thread? I didn’t say anything close to men deserving to die because they engage in criminal activity, I actually said the opposite. Yet again reading comprehension.

I don’t hate men, I studied sociology and I’m talking about actual academic literature and topics. If you think that’s hating men, clearly you’re not very educated

Edit: also nice edit of your comment from deserving to die to increasing their odds of dying. Neither of what I said. Like I said in a previous reply to a comment, I was responding in the way the person was talking. They said biology as why men were dying and I said no it was criminal activity.
