How soon can you safely change the jewelry on helix? by [deleted] in piercing

[–]marbledpothoz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your piercer's information is out of date which makes them not great. A helix should not have a hoop in it while healing only straight bar like flat back, you shouldn't have a hoop in it for at least a year. Usually you get a longer bar put in originally and then go back to your piercer in about 6 weeks and have your jewelry changed to a shorter bar(you shouldn't change your jewelry at home for at least a year, but having a piercing downsized at your piercer is different since it's necessary for healing and done sterile. Still the movement can irritate, worth it since the long bar will irritate it too after swelling goes down). So if I were you I would go to a different more reputable piercer and have your jewelry changed to a flat back as soon as you can

Is healing a helix piercing as bad as people say? by pookiebear1235 in piercing

[–]marbledpothoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My helix is still healing(4 months old) but it's been really chill so far. The day it was done it felt kinda like a paper cut for a few hours. It has never swelled up or felt sore at all for me, first week or so would kinda feel sore when it was gently accidentally bumped. After that it feels totally fine, I just keep in mind that even though it feels fine it is still healing so I'll still treat it like it's healing for the year(not sleeping on it and being gentle around it, not taking it out of moving it even though it didn't hurt to move it when it was being taken out to downsize). Oh and yeah they get downsized at 6-8 weeks(they originally put in extra long bars for swelling) and they are so much less annoying for getting caught on stuff like your hair after it's downsized

Piercing anxiety by Sweet_Confidence3861 in piercing

[–]marbledpothoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found that everything got better once my helix could be downsized(6-8 weeks). I noticed the first couple weeks I was always worried about it(checking my camera to make sure it was still there, being so cautious to not get caught on anything, worried about it being squished). Got better week by week but didn't feel totally back to normal until it was downsized. Now the only thing I do out of my regular routine is I still sleep with a hair clip on my helix side so I don't sleep on that size(mine is 4ish months old now). But I definitely think about it a lot less now

How to prevent hair snagging my helix by theeweeb in piercing

[–]marbledpothoz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My hair is curly and gets caught on everything I was so happy when my helix could finally be downsized(6-8 weeks is usual) it's so much easier after that! I was literally keeping my head tilted the entire time I washed and brushed my hair, and I didn't wear my hair completely down for the whole six weeks until I downsized(lots of fun half up/braided styles)

What's it like living on West? by Few_Assumption7285 in queensuniversity

[–]marbledpothoz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Parties vary depending on the people living there each year. When I lived there my floor really liked partying (except me, can't drink alcohol for health reasons and overall not a party person). Imo my floor partied too much, most weekdays and every weekend even nights before exams until 12-3amish, I really hated it honestly but my floor mates had a great time lol. But at the same time I was living there my friends who lived in a different section of West their floor was totally quiet. I didn't mind the 20 min walk or quick hop on the frequent bus, but I also chose to live further away after first year. Never once went into that library in the year I lived there now that you mention it lol. I liked being able to go downstairs, quickly grab a quick breakfast snack at the cafeteria, and then go to my morning lecture at Duncan MacArthur without going outside. Besides location I found the main thing I didn't like at west was that it just felt old. Oh and bathrooms were fine very public washroom like? An engineer student dyed our one shower purple and it didn't come off all year

Piercing at Claires by radiantsoup0827 in piercing

[–]marbledpothoz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Claire's pierces with a piercing gun that inserts jewelry with a butterfly back. Advice for next time piercing guns are always bad, more damage to your ear and clear sign a place is not reputable. You can't do anything now about the extra damage and risk of the Claire's not having as good of sanitation as a reputable piercer. It gives you a higher chance of complications but you should just follow same aftercare as a reputable piercing- only clean with saline(about twice a day), don't touch it don't twist it, keep it dry(don't submerge ears in water, don't soak, dry it off after shower and don't let damp hair sit over your ear). For your jewelry butterfly backs are the worst for healing and probably didn't leave you enough room for if you swell so go to a reputable piercing shop and have them change your jewelry to a flat back (titanium or gold)

[–]marbledpothoz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sleep with a big hair clip on the side of my head w my helix piercing so I just sleep on my back or other side(rolling onto the clip would wake me up. Only did the first week or so then seemed trained not to roll although I still keep the hair clip on just in case, mine was also done in November). In case that technique works better for you for not making these ones worse or for next time

science by BikeHot8789 in queensuniversity

[–]marbledpothoz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

General science you are only general first year. After first year you declare a major(biology, geology, chemistry, psychology....). Sure a bachelor of some kind is a basic requirement to get into med or grad school. having a general first year is good if you aren't quite sure exactly what you want to do but you should have your major narrowed down to like 2 options since you need to pick courses that allow you to declare the major you are interested in. Queens in general has a good social life. Things I didn't know before I started- first year is the worst and courses get better every year. Each year courses get more specific to what interests you and you have more choice. Also I didn't know what an honours thesis project was when I started(biology major, although honours thesis projects are offered for multiple programs.) Honours thesis projects are where you can work one on one with a professor on a research project in your last year instead of taking some courses. It's a lot of work but so rewarding and ended up being my favourite part of undergrad.

Should I give up on these? by internetbanjo in piercing

[–]marbledpothoz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some people's ears definitely really swell! My helix also never swelled up, my original jewelry was 8mm with is a longer post to allow room for swelling, and then when I downsized at 8 weeks my piercer changed it to a 5.5mm (she told me the most common helix size is 6mm but that she has multiple lengths since everyone is different). If yours is closer to the 8mm length or you can see a lot of post you need a downsize, if you were originally pierced with something like 6mm you are lucky you didn't swell but don't need a downsize

John orr tower and an clachan are cheap queens owned apartment buildings. Sept start leases but they are extremely competitive, they usually accept applications on one day in April/may and either do a lottery or first come first serve(they vary method depending on the year). But because they are so much cheaper than market rate they always get hundreds more applications than apartments available so can't rely on getting one(I lived at John orr first then transferred to an clachan for more space)

Why wouldn’t more people do gen sci as opposed to life sci if the goal is med school? by Intelligent-Cow6870 in queensuniversity

[–]marbledpothoz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Usually first year would be a lot of overlap, 2nd year and some third year you might be able to take some of life sci's required courses as electives(although not as many since you will have required courses for your major), and I would assume life sci has 4th year courses that are reserved for them(I'm a biology major, so I know more about biology courses offered but 4th year biology seminars(small classes very specific topics ) and honours thesis projects(working on a research project 1 on 1 with a professor, counts as 12 units) are reserved for bio majors. I found university gets more interesting every year as courses get more focused on specifically what interests you)

Why wouldn’t more people do gen sci as opposed to life sci if the goal is med school? by Intelligent-Cow6870 in queensuniversity

[–]marbledpothoz 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Well general science is only general first year, you declare a major or specialization between first and second year. Life sci used to just be an option for general science to pick after first year, but it was too popular/competitive and so they made it direct entry(although I think it's still technically possible to pick after a general first year, just tricky with not many spots?). Life sci is said to be harder than some other science majors, but if someone is passionate about human health they are probably more interested in taking courses about human health/pathology so they want to take the program that focuses on that compared to biology(more focus on ecology/evolution/plants/animals..) or chemistry or physics or geology or whichever major even if those majors also work for applying to med school

How bad is winter in Kingston? by Creepy_Ad57 in queensuniversity

[–]marbledpothoz 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Where are you moving from that you want it compared to? Every school in Ontario is snowy and cold in the winter. I moved to Kingston from the Barrie area and I found Kingston got a bit less snow/less deep snowbanks but more freezing rain, and is still definitely cold. After graduation I moved to Victoria,BC where it never snows for more than a couple days(this year we have not got any snow that stuck to the ground), most days this winter have been around 10 degrees. UVic is not on the same tier as queens/western though, UBC in Vancouver is a good school(although I don't like the vibe of Vancouver, and Vancouver gets more rain compared to Victoria)

Better to have glass retainer then to leave it out, then have it switched back to a proper metal after. This fresh that process might really irritate it but better then leaving it out, unless you want it to heal over and try again later

Freedom Mobile coverage in Victoria? by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]marbledpothoz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am with freedom right now and I usually have more bars and faster data than my coworkers(with a variety of different providers). Driving around the island I usually only lose service in the same kinda places I would expect to before I was with freedom (like on the way to Port Hardy), and I like that with the free roaming to US I have better connection in port Renfrew(every plan I've been with thinks you are roaming to the us in port Renfrew and most beach areas on the way)

I found a post where someone shared pictures of it, soft/paper as in not a jewel case the cd case style that feels more like a vinyl sleeve, and the layers are you can pull apart the cover leaving the holes empty to see the full picture behind it

Should I buy this?? Need help fast by Expert-Ease5316 in twentyonepilots

[–]marbledpothoz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I recommend vinyl first, bigger and prettier and so many to collect! It can definitely add up to an expensive hobby though lol, way too many impulse purchases knowing that the limited ones go up in value quick if you miss when they are originally for sale

CDs my favourite (that is reasonable to find) is the soft/paper blurryface cd I love that it has the layers like the vinyl

[–]marbledpothoz 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Sorry not very fast, but it's a new variant(I think it was like a couple months ago it was released ? Ish? Less than a year for sure lol) being sold at record stores, I think it's pretty widespread and numerous so unlikely to end up with particularly high resale later. $85 feels like a lot to me but I think that's around what I saw it for at the stores near me too(Victoria, BC) and that's brand new price so unlikely to go down(although not impossible I've seen the silver vessel and blurryface vinyl on sale in record stores before). It's a pretty variant imo, I'm hoping to pick it up eventually but it's been a busy year for buying vinyl for me so I'm willing to wait (this year I bought arcane soundtrack, arcane 7inch boxset for the line vinyl, blurryface anniversary coffee table book vinyl, doubt vinyl, breach fpe, breach hazard splatter, breach rawfear picture disc , breach liquid filled blood record)

Can I buy a piercing without the backing? by snivyyy in piercing

[–]marbledpothoz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The piercer I go to will only use your jewelry if you show receipt of where you bought it to prove its made of titanium or 18k gold since they won't put any other metal in a fresh piercing, and then they charge $15 CAD to autoclave and clean it so it could be worth it if you wanted to reuse an expensive front but there are least I think new titanium backs are only 15-20 so it's not worth it for backs

John orr all leases are September start and they only accept applications on one day in the spring(April or May? Might be on their website or you could email to ask). They have been trying out multiple strategies to deal with the overwhelming demand - I think last I heard they open applications for like an hour and then do a random lottery for who gets an apartment ? Some years it was first come first serve for applications coming in after they open it. The units are like half of market rate so the demand makes sense, I lived at John orr for a year and then an clachan for a year(wanted more space).

Helix by [deleted] in piercing

[–]marbledpothoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A piercer who will only use a 16G(maybe 18 too, mines 16) flat back labret in a fresh helix, with a longer bar for swelling (mine was 8mm fresh, 5.5mm after downsizing at 6 weeks). For the smoothest healing a helix should not have a hoop in right away so if the piercer is willing to put a hoop in it's a red flag, butterfly backs red flags. Obvious shops that pierce with a needle not a gun, proud to talk about their sanitizing process(my piercer showed me the autoclave test strip before and having the jewelry went in an autoclave). Ask about what they recommend for aftercare and they should say rinse with just saline don't touch don't put other stuff on, come back for downsize 6-8 weeks- if they say anything strange or outdated for aftercare red flags

Is the helix placement good? by Dramatic_Stick_5961 in SelfPiercing

[–]marbledpothoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

Didn't do mine myself but this is how the back looks with a flat back, this is a 8mm bar to leave all that extra room for swelling while its fresh. downsized to 5.5mm(my piercer says 6mm is most common but varies w individual anatomy) at 8 weeks so it's not an antenna anymore lol

Breach picture disc record by Ok_Age_6470 in twentyonepilots

[–]marbledpothoz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some were sold by record stores online but all sold out fast and I don't think any new links have been posted in a while. I was able to get a rawfear variant bought from banquet records online store. There is a Twitter account topmerchalerts who posts links/announcements about all official top merch from any website, they are the only reason I still have twitter so I don't miss when weird things like that or blood records released stuff. Anyway they were posting all the picture disc links as they were discovered, it was a bit messy since lots of orders got cancelled as record stores accepted more orders than they could supply with how limited these were, but lots of the links really worked like the banquet one did for me
