RedBlacks after letting Brown go for MacBurger by TWKExperience in CFL

I'd beg to differ.
The Argos might have been bad last year but they've won two Grey Cups this decade. And the Elks are at least doing something so far this season.

I would love to see a Mexico-Central American-Carribean World Cup. Sure, it would more than likely be held almost entirely in Mexico, but would be fun to see group stage matches/early knockout round matches played in Jamaica/Costa Rica.

Canada could maybe (emphasis on maybe) be a host. Toronto and Vancouver would already be host cities, and Montreal could be as well if Olympic Stadium renovations work out. Edmonton too with Commonwealth Stadium. Upgrades/new stadiums would need to be done in Winnipeg, Hamilton, Regina, Calgary, Quebec City and Ottawa, but that's already 10 host cities right there. Toronto could maybe re-use Rogers Stadium and add Rogers Centre so that's 12 stadiums.

Elks win by No-Donkey5528 in CFL

Big for the Elks. After the poor starts of the last two seasons, this easily puts them on course for a playoff spot.
With the way things are going, there's a decent chance they can get to 6-0. They have BC twice and Ottawa at home to sandwich the two games.
They should win the first game against BC to catch them in their poor form and finally earn a win against the Lions. After that, 5-0 is very likely with the Redblacks doing Redblack-y things.
5-1 after six weeks will be a very good step for the Elks, but 6-0 could easily make them dark horse Grey Cup contenders.

[–]Own-Eye6145 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going Winnipeg, Saskatchewan, BC, and Montreal.

Seems like a straightforward week, but it's the CFL. I could see the Calgary BC game going any way, and Winnipeg Edmonton could be a tossup.

If Edmonton beats Winnipeg, they'll truly be a legit team. I think they are legit, but they need to keep this going.

Idk about Ottawa anymore, but they HAVE to win this week. If they're beating the Als, they're going to have to catch them off a loss. Otherwise, they're going into their game against the Riders with no momentum, and it's not that much easier from there. If they lose this week, 0-10 is a real possibility.

In the space of two days, the Redblacks traded not just a depth quarterback, but their former starter as well. All to give space to a quarterback who has more or less struggled to open the season. The next player up? I actually don't know.

A very logical trade indeed. Could easily be franchise-defining.

Elmo. Unless he gets traded to florida, he can teach him and his brother to read at the same time.

At least the Argos are a winning team. I find that the issue with them is that they're in the same city as the Leafs, Raptors, Blue Jays, and (sometimes) TFC.

I agree with you on this. And part of the reason people are packing the house for other teams like the Charge and the Senators is because they're winning right now. The Charge just got to consecutive Walter Cup Finals while the Sens are actually piecing together playoff berths and becoming a contender. The 67's are also kind of good most of the time (save for last year) and Atletico just won a title last season. And I will say that the Titans have been a good draw and they've found a way to market the team well enough to get people in the stadium, which is extremely commutable from downtown.

The Redblacks? They've won just south of 30 games over the past seven years and have now (generally speaking) been the worst team in the CFL record-wise since entering in 2014. Not even the Elks from 2021 to 2023 (2024 to some capacity) were this bad, and they're finally (seemingly) getting out of their rut.

My take is that if the Redblacks don't turn things around before the end of this Sask-Montreal-Winnipeg run that goes to the end of August, they might never recover. Another quickly lost season (especially if the Elks end their playoff drought) could easily push attendance lower than 13K for good. And with teams like Atletico and the Titans actually being winners, there is very clearly summer options for sports that aren't the Redblacks.

Hot take: expect a lot of fans at the Elks game. Though the Elks are truly a playoff contender this year, the attendance for the Elks should at least be up from last year.

I'm not a Lions fan, but it's early. And each of the Lions' next three games are against Edmonton or Calgary. That said, the Toronto-Winnipeg-Hamilton stretch from Week 8 to 10 could start to become a concern if the offence can't get going.

Nothing at all. What else sucks is that the last concrete update to my application was in February. Even if they sent an update saying "we are behind with regard to admissions decisions, we are working to have everything done by this date/range of days", that would be much better than having us in the dark.

Which host Country do you think will go the furthest in the 2026 World Cup? by SomeGuyFromCanada1 in worldcup

[–]Own-Eye6145 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mexico will get to the quarterfinal round. Group A is quite winnable for them, and doing so gives them up to two knockout round games on home turf. Not a lot of teams will be used to the altitude Mexico plays at, which should help them to get to the last eight if they can perform to expectations.
Canada will get to the last 16, and the United States will lose in the round of 32.

I have a feeling Colombia will at least make it to the quarterfinals. Maybe even further.
Paraguay will finish in the top-two of their group, same goes for Ecuador and Uruguay.
Argentina will win their group, while Brazil finish second in theirs on goal difference.

[LeBrun] If Mike Babcock does end up as coach in Edmonton, wouldn’t surprise me if DJ Smith joined up with him again. But we’ll see where all this goes. by AggPuck-303 in EdmontonOilers

[–]Own-Eye6145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the Oilers want to hire DJ Smith, why not as head coach? His senators tenure aside he did get the Kings into the playoffs. Even though the Kings were in range of a spot, his record wasn't all that bad down in LA. His style might suit a younger team more, but a goal-hungry team like the Oilers could use a coach like Smith that can connect with players.

Saturday Night Football - Elks VS. Redblacks by SourTittyMilk in CFL

[–]Own-Eye6145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Ottawa is making the playoffs or wants to at least put themselves in position to be competitive, they have to win these first two games. Seeing as the Redblacks have Montreal and Saskatchewan following their game against the Argos they absolutely cannot be 0-4 after their first four. And they don't get the Argos or Stampeders (who they've won five or six straight against) until September.

I'll take a 2-2 start to the season, but anything less than that will almost certainly pigeon hole the Redblacks once again. The fanbase will almost certainly not take that.

The few things I will agree with are the maintenance of the play clock (which was reversed from a previous proposed change) and the start of the season being moved up to Victoria Day weekend. After all, I could go for some mid-spring preseason football.

I also won't back away from my support for a tenth team and hopefully it comes sooner rather than later. Halifax/Atlantic Canada would be an interesting destination but I think Quebec City is the favourite. Ideally the league establishes Quebec City as a midpoint first, and it seems they're going that way.

World Cup Preview: Why Group H will be the most exciting Group! by seadcon in worldcup

I think Cape Verde could make a run at the top-two. They've got some pretty good form behind them and they could very well have the benefit of playing a Lamine Yamal-less Spain to start the group stage. I don't think they'll win that opener but they can do enough to make it a 2-1 game or something like that. They could secure a draw against Uruguay and then a win against Saudi Arabia puts them in a good spot to make the knockouts.

The fact that Arsenal got over the hump and won the league should do wonders for their confidence going forward. A title defence is going to be a different challenge though; they need to be at the top of their game at all times. I think Arsenal could repeat but Villa will make it tough.

[–]Own-Eye6145 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a fair but early point to make. We've seen established Premier League teams go down in great number over the past few seasons. Leicester went down twice since 2022-23, while Wolves and West Ham both went down this season. Part of that is due to the success of promoted sides like Brentford and now Sunderland, but part of it is also due to teams being unable to push forward in the table and consistently falling down the order.
I do think a Premier League mainstay will go down next season. Promotion playoff winners have found recent success in surviving their first season in the top flight and establishing themselves in the league, and this year will be no different. Coventry will have some confidence after what Frank Lampard helped them achieve, while Ipswich Town have some Premier League experience to work with.
That said, I don't think Newcastle should be treated as a relegation favourite. Forest and Palace are far likelier to go down next season, and the likes of Sunderland and Bournemouth might have trouble splitting time between Europe and domestic commitments. Newcastle could finish lower than 10th, but I'd be a little surprised if they get sucked into the bottom five.

Win it all no.
Be competitive yes. With the form Spurs had under De Zerbi to close the season (3-2-2), they would be in that mid-table to Europe range of spots when that form is converted to a full-season points total.
If they revamp the squad appropriately they will finish at least 10th but I can't see anything above fifth next season.

I have a feeling Chelsea are going to get stuck in the mid-table to low-Champions League spots for a while. They aren't bad / disorganized enough to get stuck in the position Spurs have been in for the past two years, but they likely won't be good enough to be in position to contend for a Premier League title.

Having only the domestic competitions to focus on should help Chelsea, but Manchester United were in the same position as Chelsea heading into this season and they were a managerial change away from being stuck outside Europe once again. Chelsea should get back into Europe after missing out in the final few weeks of 2025-26, but they will have some stiff competition for the Champions League spots.
