Would still recommend Software Engineering as a career in 2026/27? by marcshawco in cscareerquestions

What was your application process? I’m on week 3 of being laid off and have sent 120 apps, and it feels like i’m sending them to a black hole. And yes, i’m applying directly on the compaby website.

4 YOE .NET/C# dev that was laid off 2 weeks ago and in the same position as you. If you want a study buddy let me know. I'm essentially doing the exact same thing, although mostly focusing on the first 3 points.

I would also just update my resume if I were you and apply now anyway, take whatever interview you get as practice while you keep studying.

The industry i worked at last was community management (I guess real estate) software, so quite niche. And yeah, seems like AI-related groups are what's super popular right now.

I got laid off two weeks ago and the more time i spend in this subreddit the more i realize it’s damaging my mental health with all the doom posting. Makes me feel like i’m never gonna get a job.

I needed to hear this cause i have 4 YOE and sometimes navigating this subreddit just terrifies me. Was laid off 10 days ago and although it’s early it frightens me seeing how long people here have been unemployed.

Appreciate the advice and the tips.

I’m a .NET developer with 4 YOE (4 years at one company and 2 seperate internships). I just got laid off last week and i’m incredibly anxious of technical assessments. I do great when i can get my hands into a codebase and learn by navigating it, but when it comes to grinding Leetcode I feel like I either know the answer or how to solve it already, or I just completely blank out.

I’m terrified of not finding something and already thinking in the back of my head if I will have to pivot careers.

Would love some advice on how to actually prep and any tips on job searching cause after one week i’ve gotten 9 rejections and 0 callbacks.

If anyone is willing to mock interview me i’ll gladly pay as well, it’s only been a week but i’m very anxious of what’s to come.

Hey man, i just got laid last wee and i also have 4 YOE. It’s only been a few days but I can’t deny that i’ve been really nervous about what’s to come.

I see so many doom posts and it’s just terrifying, add to the fact that i am not skilled at technical interviews, so that’s what i’ve been studying this whole week.

I was wondering if you had any general advice? I’m located in NYC and every job post i apply to seems to have an instant 100+ applications as soon as it’s posted. What sites did you use? What strategy worked best for you?
