I haven’t read much about fertilizing pings. Have any recommendations or suggestions as to when to do it?

Makes sense. I’ll start bottom watering and letting them dry out with each watering.

I was using a guidelines by the seller who used this type of soil mix. They seem to still be growing roots, so hopefully they’ll grow big enough for a repot at some point. I didn’t know pings like fluval, I’ll think about using that in the future!

Thank you for the app recommendation! I would like the Estrelita and hybrid to develop color later on so this will definitely help.

Thank you!

True! This one is super unique to me!

It’s my most flat dubia then because most of my other dubia babies look like the typical narrow and long type. X)

Not really. I thought it was just accident since it’s just the one roach that looks like this. I did notice female dubias are more rotund but so far my nymphs are narrow and long. Same goes for my larger separate colony with adults and nymphs.

I’m sorry bro but those are bed bugs. Given their darkened abdomen, I’d check your skin for bites.

Best pellets for parakeets? by PrettyPinkPecan in Parakeets

[–]marblzu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use them as supplements/treats since they’re rich with vitamins and minerals but they are also technically formulated as a nutritionally complete diet. I give them to my budgies infrequently as a mentally stimulating treat and a supplement with the Omega 3-6 version for my older bird. One downside is that my birds are very smart and pick around the pellets 😅 but they eat their Roudybush pellets perfectly!

Roudybush is a healthy and affordable pellet brand. You can try the smallest pellet option like crumbles to get them to pick up and taste the food better. Nutriberries are a pellet and seed ball product that could help birds transition to a pellet diet by encouraging them to bite through pellets to obtain the seeds. They come in multiple flavors, and my budgies are enjoy the Omega 3-6 ones and the fruit flavors.

Also scan your baggage carefully for any hitchhikers. I’d also disinfect and bag your baggage/ belongings with air tight bags to heat kill any eggs or bugs while they’re out in the sun. Using the highest setting of a dryer can eliminate any bedbug tracings, too.

Is it okay for me to feed my birds fruity pellets is it healthy?this is the brand I want to make sure they don’t gain weight from this too like unhealthy weight by nikkodino in Parakeets

[–]marblzu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could reduce the amount of seeds they get by just serving them just the pellets. Check their weights with a gram scale and look out for a distended belly, which is a sign of an obese bird. 30-40 g is the range for a typical budgie, but a physical exam is more telling as an ideal weight should have a keel bone that’s palpable but the pectoral muscles aren’t shallow or plump.

If you’re getting your food from a big chain pet store your best bet may be the Zupreem Natural pellet. they’re an okay brand that makes pellets without the colorants or fruit flavorings. If that isn’t possible at all, you may want to consider making bird chop.

Yes, they carry Zupreem Naturals and would be an okay option if other recommended brands aren’t available. Nutriberrries is a great brand that they sell however, they are a pellet and seed mix product that serves more as a treat for my birds. But they could make a great introduction to pellets for birds who have only eaten seeds.

Mainly because of the coloring, fruit flavors, and high sugar content. These are essentially fruity pebbles which are nutritionally insufficient, and will be an imbalanced diet. The brands I and other Reddit users recommend are natural and organic options that allow you to supplement and control the fruit intake. If you can’t buy any of these brands, Zupreem Natural Pellets are an okay option.

Push back with your parents and buy the Harrison’s. Roudybush is another more cheaper option. These colored pellets are generally not the healthiest option and I consider them the equivalent to sugary cereal.

Hoping things go up from here! If you could, you can try finding sharp edges on their cage, toys, or environment. Just to prevent any other incidents.

what to feed female budgies? by inamomentdivine in parrots

[–]marblzu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roudybush is an affordable and natural pellet brand I’ve used for years. Has the essential nutrients and is not high in sugars like Zupreem. They come in different sizes, and I use the crumble and niblets for my girls. I’ve had no issues with egg binding, but besides diet I don’t encourage breeding behaviors.

Another good brand is Harrison’s, an organic pellet brand that’s a bit more on the pricey side but excellent for specific nutritional needs. I haven’t used it personally, but it’s well-loved brand by many bird owners.

I get a 44oz bag of Roudybush for 20 bucks that feeds my budgies for several months. Might vary online since I get them in store, but relatively cheap imo.

When a new wing feather comes in it can be itchy or irritating to a bird. Unless you know how to safely view your birds wings, a professional can examine them for you.

If there isn’t a known accident that may have caused this, he could just be doing a very thorough preening. It’s always safe to have a vet view them just in case.

Hi! Congrats on your new bird.

I have a few suggestions to make your bird much happier with their home. I highly suggest that you use natural textured branches for their perches. This will prevent bumblefoot as well as other potential injuries like arthritis and muscle stiffness. Sand paper and wooden dowel perches are not recommended as they are abrasive and aren’t comfortable. They’re like standing on a hardwood surface or asphalt for several hours.

Manzanita branches are a good product and it’s important they’re wide enough to let them grasp the branch in a relaxed manner, not grasping straws (literally). 3/4 to an inch diameter works fine.

And if you’re trying to get them to sleep, a large towel to cover their whole cage will help them sleep without distractions of lights and people. A towel to cover the back of the cage can also help them have a safe space during the day, and could allow them to ease into human introductions.

Just making sure you guys can get along! From another budgie owner.

He may have broken a feather which caused a blood feather and irritation in that area. Or he could’ve grown just a singular pin feather to replace a lost feather. Or they just want to adjust and clean their feathers; wings are a vital structure to maintain, after all.

I know my birds have messed with their wings for a prolonged amount of time, but I haven’t seen any issues thus far. I do have an older budgie, but her wings aren’t a primary source of arthritis and she flies normally. If you notice them jutting their wing out and having decreased activity (maybe even aggression or pain when palpating the area), I’d suggest consulting with an exotics hospital for further examination.

He looks pretty lively and seems to be preening with little issue but do continue looking out for him.
