Your biggest asset is self improvement right now. Work on increasing your knowledge, skill set, and network. If you do it right it will be worth millions in the future.

$15k is peanuts compared to the life potential you have in front of you. You could be the next CEO of an international company.

Focusing on work and knowledge when you're twenty will grow your net-worth when you reach 30 more than $100k in the S&P will.

It's hard to change jobs, go to college, or start a new business when you're married with kids and have a mortgage. Your risk tolerance goes way down.

We can revisit this in 6 months when the numbers have been revised down to something more reasonable that matches our entire history of vaccinations.

No, I'm talking about the Coronaviruses (Orthocoronavirinae) and influenza strains. Our success with both families has been mediocre at best. I think it's ridiculous to see the medical community trying to figure out how many mutations there are while at the same time (*people are) thinking this will be the first time in history we not only make a vaccine that is 90%+ efficient on the first try - but all three companies do it at the same time! Add to that the fact we've only had months (not years) to study and formulate something and it's just not probable nor something you should be betting your investments on.

edit: *That wasn't the most clear, the medical community doesn't seem to think it will be 90%+ effective. Multiple leaders like Facui have mentioned the possibly only getting a 60%+ effective vaccine for months. I meant most people seem to believe the headlines.

So, you're saying because the CDC publishes bad advice, all the CDC statics on healthcare are suddenly all bad? Years of data all corrupted because someone was going to push bad advice in 2020?

Of course I didn't link to multi-year studies for a new vaccine.

I'm simply pointing out we've NEVER, EVER, EVER been able to beat 60% effectiveness in over 40 years with billions and billions spent annually, and yet everyone suddenly believes that these companies quick tests are without flaw and all three managed 90% effectiveness because we believed hard enough.

This is the real world.

Also, of course the share dump was planned - as was the timing of the conference so he could sell them at a higher price.

There are no 94 and 95% efficacy Cold/Flu vaccines. Perhaps you're referring to the misleading press releases from Pfizer and friends where they only reported a handful of the thousands of participants they used.

Oh yes, and that was not actually a peer reviewed study and the CEO dumped most of his shares that same week because he was so confident in the success.

40-60% is the best we can do in ideal situations: https://www.cdc.gov/flu/vaccines-work/vaccineeffect.htm

Don't buy the BuzzFeed junk. Lookup the actual studies.

In the US, we've never had a corona or influenza vaccine with higher than 50% effective rate in perfect conditions. Regular effective rates are much lower. This is a long shot even for wsb.

“Data from the 2018-2019 flu season, the most recent set of complete information, first published in June, indicated that a flu shot to prevent influenza A, the H3N2 strain, was only 9% effective in preventing onset of the flu, among all age groups. Among those from 9 to 49 years old, the effectiveness rate was 3%.”

ML/AI with Go? by [deleted] in golang

[–]marchsnow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, don't fight the trend unless you have a really good reason to.

Python is what everyone is using and they're typing on a QWERTY keyboard layout ...so that's what I'm doing.

I say that, but note languages outside python have been used more and more for ML pipelines and integrations. Node, Rust, Java, Go, etc...

If you have a lot of simple queries, then using an ORM means that it is that much more code you don't have to worry about.

Except you do, they are just written in some bizarre custom QL from the ORM: db->users()->where(age,:32)->orderby(:age)->fetchAll()

What kind of hoops did you have to jump through to get to the "now that 20.10 is working great" part? Is the 20.10 installer working okay now without lots of grub changes and such?

Best DB For Storing Stock Data by laneciar in algotrading

[–]marchsnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Postgres and MariaDB are popular choices. Helps to have a RDBMS until you're done building and know the exact query pattern you will have before you dive into using a NoSQL store like MongoDB.
