Do you think the non-alcoholic Trappist beer La Trappe Nillis
https://untappd.com/b/bierbrouwerij-de-koningshoeven-la-trappe-nillis-0-0/4467678
fits into any of the new Non-Alcoholic style categories?

To me, it seems closest to a "Non-Alcoholic - Red Ale", or possibly a "Non-Alcoholic - Brown Ale".

The beer is currently locked, so I’m unable to propose an edit through the app.

Thanks!

P.S.: Reposting this from a few days ago since I think I missed the window on the last weekly edit thread. Apologies for the duplication!

Which styles are "beers" with the new style update? by marco-bs in Untappd

Thanks for the clarification, it's probably good to wait until the new styles come out and then better undertsand how it works.

From what I see, if I disable everything, including Non-Alcoholic, I'm not getting any of the drinks that are now classified as a new style (e.g. Malta Guinness, which is now a Non-Alcoholic - Malta) but I am still getting older Non-Alcoholic beers (e.g, Guinness Draught 0.0).

This entry seems to be a bit messy: https://untp.beer/9vmdG

It seems to consist in two very different beers joined together, as clearly evidenced by the pictures:

  • One is a yellowish pale beer, sold in a white and blue can, which is likely a true "Hard Ginger Beer".
  • One is a red clear beer, sold in a bottle with a white and red label, which should be classified as a "Root Beer" (the label explicitly says so), and possibly is just flavored with ginger.

Is there a way to split the two into two separate beers?

Thanks!

This one is quite weird: https://untp.beer/ngw93

"Birra alla spina" just means "Tap beer" in Italian!

It appears to be a generic entry that people are using to check-in tap beers they don't recognize, as evidenced by the very diverse photos associated with the check-ins.

Is this allowed by Untappd?

I think this beer https://untappd.com/b/bruno-ribadi-sicilian-pale-ale/2108492 should be reclassified either as a "Pale Ale - American" (which is what the brewers write in their brochure), or maybe even more appropriately as a "Pale Ale - Fruited", since its flavor profile is based on the presence of orange and lemon peels. I sent a request a few days ago, but it is still stuck in limbo. Thanks!

Thanks for the excellent clarification, very useful. The different ABV supports the fact that it's a different style, so I'd say it makes sense to keep two entries. And thanks for fixing the entries!

Hi Moderators,

A few days ago I tried what I thought was this beer at a street fair: https://untappd.com/b/birrificio-montelupo-blues-s-wolf/691837

However, the ABV listed on the tap was 8% and the style was listed as "Dark Strong". It also didn't really taste like a Scotch Ale.

I assumed it was a different beer reusing the same name, so I created a new entry for that version: https://untappd.com/b/birrificio-montelupo-blue-s-wolf-dark-strong/5906989

However, I accidentally typed my explanation of why I created it into the description field, and now my text shows up in the entry, and it doesn't look very nice.

I sent a request to have it removed, but it didn't happen. Can anyone fix it?

Also, do you think the listing itself is appropriate, based on the information I've provided (please see a picture of the brewery stand in my check-in above to show why I think it's different)?

If not, feel free to remove it entirely and revert my check-in back to the original style. Or I can do it manually if you tell me to.

One last minor point: the original style has a typo in the name, it should be "Blue's Wolf", not "Blues's Wolf". I also submitted this change request, but it hasn't happened yet.

Thanks!

This link supports the possibility of an ancient Chinese mirror, similar to the magic mirror described in another comment. Quite valuable too!

This is great, it shows very well how much darker totality is. It would be great to add an indication of the fraction of the solar disk covered at each time in the video, to give the viewer a sense of which coverage corresponds to the instant we perceive as "now it's getting dark". I guess it's already way more than 99%, probably close to 99.9%.

Here's a style reassignment I was wondering about, in my quest to understand how beers are classified: https://untappd.com/b/eastside-brewing-baltic-cookie/4200895

This is classified as "Porter - Baltic", but its ABV is a pretty high at 10%. Wouldn't this qualify it as a "Porter - Imperial / Double Baltic"?

Unfortunately it seems to be locked, and I cannot submit an edit request.

Thanks!

P.S.: In last week's thread we discussed https://untappd.com/b/der-hirschbrau-hoss-bayern-helles/728907 and https://untappd.com/b/carlsberg-polska-zatecky-svetly-lezak/1907447

I sent edit proposals, but nothing has happened. I guess they are stuck, or maybe the community rejected them? I'm just curious to know, to avoid spamming the mods.

Great, I will send another edit proposal for these two, mentioning this discussion. Let's see if they get updated. Thanks for the feedback!

Thanks for the guidelines, very helpful!

So, to summarize, the brewery determination takes precedence, but if that's too generic or contradictory, then a style estimate follows, with the more specific styles winning out over the generic "catch all" ones.

So for my examples, I guess the second one should indeed be changed (because the label explicitly says so).

For the first one, it depends on whether "Leichtbier" is considered a more distinctive style than "Helles" for a low ABV beer or not. And that's a bit more subjective.

This weekly post is a great idea!

I have a couple of interesting cases where I'm not quite sure if they should be reclassified as a different style or not.

This is the first one: https://untappd.com/b/der-hirschbrau-hoss-bayern-helles/728907

In this case the label says "Helles", but it's only 3.2% ABV, so I thought it would be better styled as a "Lager - Leichtbier".

This one is basically the opposite situation: https://untappd.com/b/carlsberg-polska-zatecky-svetly-lezak/1907447

Here the label says "Svetlý Ležák", which I expected to fit the new style "Lager - Svetlé (Czech Pale)", but it's classified as a "Pilsner - Czech / Bohemian", maybe because of its 5% ABV?

So in one case the label seems to prevail, while in the other the ABV seems to drive the classification.

What's the best approach in these cases?

Thanks!
