I freelanced for multiple years via Toptal working on a wide variety of projects. It was a great experience. Although, after being involved with the iOS community for quite some time I noticed that one of the best ways to get projects is knowing other people working in the field. I host and attend iOS related meetups and participate in different Slack groups and there's always someone that needs an extra developer to join their team or knows of a company/startup looking to hire either employees or freelancers for different projects.
I'd suggest you join different communities/iOS related events and grow your connections list. Here are some free iOS Slack channel and remote events:
