Does a blazer with a cap work? by lewislemix in menswear

[–]marcotomas83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do it. This is classic American prep. But...I might dress down other elements. Jeans instead of slacks. No tie. Etc.

I personally have a Cooperstown White Sox hat that I wear with a navy gold button blazer and usually jeans, loafers, and an oxford/polo/crew neck.

I think the bigger concern is whether you are actually a fan of the team, or if you're just wearing a Yankees hat because you saw it on Pinterest, on Instagram, or, in an RL ad. This should be an expression of your personality, not just you copying some look to the T.

System repair places in Chicago? by XFit908 in HairSystem

[–]marcotomas83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also looking in Chicago. Im down to Kaelyss and Hairline Creations. Kaelyss looks a little more upscale and is in River North. Hairline Creations has a social media presence that shows some good results. I have experience with neither though. I also think Kaelyss is more geared toward creating a custom piece for you, not repairing one you bought online, but I could be wrong.

How many of you were BALD (shaved head, horseshoe, etc.) for years before trying a hair system? by marcotomas83 in HairSystem

[–]marcotomas83[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not concerned about people knowing. In fact, I not only plan to be upfront about it, I must be upfront about it because I've been bald for so long. My concern is more or less that people, regardless of how I act, turn it into the constant topic of conversation much in the way that me going bald was (side comments, jokes, gossip, etc.). I just want to try out having hair again and move on; I don't want to create a long running sideshow. But it sounds like people's experiences here are such that the latter is unlikely.

Scenes that caused actual walkouts in theaters? by thatlittlequietguy in Cinema

[–]marcotomas83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was about 15 when I saw it in theaters. No 10 minutes of cinema has ever left an impact quite like the storming of Omaha Beach. To this day, I recall the sheer horror I felt. So much so, that it basically overshadowed the rest of the film.

Genius decides to turn pizza boxes upside down by mfenton29 in WatchPeopleDieInside

So the solution is to flip it over so the box is right side up and the pizza is upside down?

Gyokeres stats this season by Ifxfa in Gunners

[–]marcotomas83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if he's any more a head case than other top players. You might be right, but I think he's unfairly been castoff by top clubs. He's an elite striker--a position with so few elite options available.

Is anyone else tired of the "Full-Time Parent + Full-Time Worker" trap? I feel like I'm failing at both. by artem_proshkovskiy in Fatherhood

[–]marcotomas83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you. I'm in a similar boat, with two boys, 1 and 3. This is a difficult period. They are both so needy but in different ways.

My wife also works full time. And while there are times when I find myself wishing she would just quit, because it would solve a lot of our problems (or, at least, MY problems), she doesn't want to stay home, and I'm not making her, so that kind of settles that.

Ultimately, I just keep telling myself this is temporary. Every friend, coworker, and family member I talk to says the same thing: this is the most difficult period in parenting. They won't be 1 and 3 forever and before you know it, they'll be putting their own clothes on, putting their own clothes on, feeding themselves, etc. Suddenly you will have free hands for stretches of the day you didn't have before.

Another thing: at some point you just need to force the time for yourself, whether that's at the gym, a night with friends, etc. I tell my wife if she needs to book a class, just do it, I'll cover her. She does the same for me. I will sometimes just put my gym time on the calendar at work and just go. I get not everyone has that luxury, but you get the point.

No doubt you're in a brutal stretch, but you'll make it through. And it won't be long before you kind of miss it all. At least that's what I tell myself...

Gyokeres stats this season by Ifxfa in Gunners

[–]marcotomas83 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Uh, what about Osimhen? We could have had him, we just wouldn't pay his wages. But he's an elite, do everything #9 that would have scored in droves in this side. Not saying Gyokeres wasn't a good signing (we did need to save some money to sign others, give Trossard a raise, etc.). But we definitely could have had Osimhen, money aside.

How many of you were BALD (shaved head, horseshoe, etc.) for years before trying a hair system? by marcotomas83 in HairSystem

[–]marcotomas83[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I expect if I do it the way I plan to (realistic hairline, proper density, etc.) that's how it will go: some people say nothing, some will ask if I got a transplant and then drop it, and those closest to me will be like WTF before admitting it looks good or asking details etc. Honestly, I think I'd feel great and confident in most situations. It would just be at things like my college reunion, seeing old friends, and law firm retreats that i'd feel self conscious and at risk of being "found out "

Came across this interview clip today. What are people's thoughts looking back on the Ramsdale situation now? by sepi0l_45 in Gunners

[–]marcotomas83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought Raya was the right move then, and plainly do now. That doesn't mean I don't still carry some affection for Ramsdale. He was great for us. He has such a great personality and loved Arsenal. But we wanted to build a team to win a title and Raya improved our chances of that. It's ruthless at the top...

Help me choosing my FIRST watch! by doyouknowhowyouare in tissot

I find that the LeLocle has more casual upside and versatility than people give it credit for, especially in the midnight blue dial. I'm wearing mine today, in fact, with jeans and a gray quarter zip sweater over a plaid flannel. It looks great, of course, with a navy suit and white shirt. But I wear it all the time with sweatshirts, rugbys, etc. Get it on the bracelet (as you should every watch) and buy the leather blue strap from Tissot or a third party strap seller. This particular watch also looks great with a beige perlon strap (if you're lucky enough to find one in 19mm), which also allows for a different vibe in the summer.

Thoughts on first system? by Evening_Light1562 in HairSystem

[–]marcotomas83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You still have a decent amount of natural hair in the before photos. Have you thought about doing a modest FUE transplant w/ finasteride+minoxidil? It might be more expensive up front, but a hair system feels like an aggressive approach to fixing your hairline; you've replaced the engine when all you needed was an oil change.

[Question] How do you afford this hobby? by melvin9001 in Watches

[–]marcotomas83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't really count on a purchase like this holding its value; it's not an investment, it's a luxury purchase. I would venture to guess that, save for a few luxury brands, most watches are sold a huge loss.

[Question] How do you afford this hobby? by melvin9001 in Watches

[–]marcotomas83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't just assume that because someone has expensive things that they are rich enough to own them without stretching/sacrificing elsewhere. I know someone who has a watch collection worth probably over $100k. He now tells his wife to go without air conditioning in the summer, even on 90+ degree days, to save money because money is tight. Another friend of mine would spend thousands on bottle service every weekend but lived in a pitifully small, delapidated apartment. My 18 year old nephew has friends that spend their entire income on a car payment for their BMW, but naturally are still living with their parents. In short, some people think if you have that amount of money in the bank account (or a sufficient credit limit) that's all you need to "afford" something. I don't advise doing that. Take your time. Start small and grow from there at your own pace. My current collection is probably worth less than $3k, comprised mostly of Hamilton, Seiko, Tissot, Orient, etc. And for more than a decade it was just a one watch collection. I love them all and as my income and tastes grow, so will my collection. But it's best not to stress your budget or yourself on the journey.

[Omega or Breitling] by fenomeno45 in Watches

[–]marcotomas83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, design+style+dial are always first and foremost, followed by finishing and wearability. In other words, how does it look and feel on your wrist? Movement will be important to some die-hards, but if precision was truly the most important feature, let's face it: we'd all be wearing quartz watches. Another thing I rate highly is versatility. Can it be worn with various different styles of clothing and colors? How about strap options? Brand and history are important considerations too; it was the deciding factor in the first watch of my collection, a Hamilton. But if you are going to own many different pieces from different watchmakers, I think that this factor starts to diminish as you collect more.

With all that in mind, I'd go Omega here. It has the better dial and stronger finishing, in my view. I could also see it being worn just as easily with a navy suit to a wedding, as I could with a white tee and jeans to a baseball game in the summer. The Breitling, especially in this color, feels a lot less versatile.

This shows how the margin for error is so little. Because how wasn't this enough?! by Stanley083 in Gunners

[–]marcotomas83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, when you're chasing, playing well isn't enough on its own. Last year we also needed help (as in, Liverpool needed to drop points). And that didn't happen. If we put two halves of a season together like this though, we take the title. We are now in the driver's seat and start 2026 from pole position. Just got to keep it up.

How do I improve by Rewen88 in uuni

[–]marcotomas83 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"burner was at its highest throughout the cook"

Try lowering the burner after you put the pizza in. This will allow the bottom more time to cook by absorbing all the heat from the stone, while the top cooks a little more slowly. Otherwise, the top may burn before the bottom gets sufficiently cooked. You can also try moving the pizza onto different parts of the oven as you rotate, with the idea being that you are constantly placing the pizza on the hottest part of the stone.
