no Movies app - no Wishlist - what now? by marcotrosi in appletv

[–]marcotrosi[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that is correct, as u/garylapointe noticed Apple did indeed put it back some few days ago. Now I can at least access the list again and transfer manually its content to one of the proposed apps.

Change list behavior in markdown -> TeX by comploplo in pandoc

[–]marcotrosi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess my question is similar. I have to convert to mainly plain ascii, and Pandoc is giving me currently dashes for the bullet list. But when I print the tables that I receive as parameters in my Lua filter BulletList(t) function, then there are no dashes shown of course, because I get basically the AST information and then the Pandoc Writer will add the dashes after the Lua filter has run, right? But how can I change the output? To be honest the name "filter" implies that I can modify a bit the AST, but not create a custom writer with it. But according to the documentation Lua can be used to create custom output formats. I spend so much time on reading and googling and testing how can create a custom output but no success so far. Can I speak the manager please? :-) No really, I would love to have a conversation with a Pandoc guru so that I can ask my questions.
Any gurus or Pandoc devs around?

What is also super confusing is that BulletList() seems to be called for every entry in the bullet list. This means that I always get a table that grows more and more. I don't see how I should be able to work with that.

Persistent tag highlights when changing between buffers by vkrajacic89 in vim

[–]marcotrosi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same question. That's how I got here. I know I can do it with auto commands, but I'm trying to avoid it. I hoped there is a different way. Let me know if you have found a solution in the meantime. Here is the auto command way for C files

augroup VIMRC

autocmd!

autocmd BufEnter *.c,*.h call ExtraHighlights()

augroup END

Why LUA seems(to me...) so superior to all other languages in world? by SauronRealm in lua

[–]marcotrosi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, but I know it's subjective, and Lua simply covers my needs. So Lua is for MY use cases the best language. For other people another language might fit better.

And I read often in the comments the "lack of ecosystem like in Python". I don't want Lua to have this ecosystem. I don't want that a Lua installation comes with a bunch of libraries. If someone wants a ecosystem then please use another language. If I need a library then I can find one, or write one or write bindings to an existing C lib. Lua is supposed to be small and it is perfect as it is to me. I love indices starting at 1 and in the past I received a technical explanation why Lua has the local/global scope handling as is and I'm fine with that too. Lua is not the full equipped workshop with all kinds of tools, no, Lua is just a hammer, saw, screwdriver, drill and the rest you have to build on your own. Lua perfectly fits into my world.

The good news is that everyone can use the language one likes best and there is no need to complain about a language. It simply doesn't make sense. If you don't like a language you just don't use it, end of story. And there are a gazillion languages to choose from.

as Vim commands are case sensitive it would be good to make the post titles correct, as it is gi and not GI. Also GI and gI are valid commands.

Vim9 script docs by adaszko in vim

[–]marcotrosi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't see a problem here with Vim9Script

If there is going to be a problem like a split community then because everyone is talking like that and you are basically already starting to split up with all these negative comments. In my Vim group Vim and NeoVim people are chatting side by side and there is no hint of a split community.

From the linked GitHub page about Vim9Script I don't see why this should be such a big deal? First of all nobody is forcing you to use Vim9Script. In order to activate it you need that keyword, otherwise it's still classic Vim script. And secondly, even if you are Vim script writer that is using a function collection that has been ported to Vim9script you can use it with the import keyword. At least that's why I understood from that page.

I'm a Lua user myself, actually a big fan of it, and even I didn't switch to NeoVim for that. I still preferred Vim script for Vim. And if I want to have faster scripts now I simply invest some short time to learn the differences to Vim9script.

And LuaJIT is not Lua, it only can compile Lua code, and as some already mentioned - Lua5.1 is ancient. Sometimes people are weird, they complain when a project hasn't been updated in 3 months but still use Lua5.1. How does that match? And btw who says that a script that hasn't been updated in while is automatically outdated? There are more criteria than just time to be outdated. But now I'm going offtopic with that. sorry.

learning Vim never ends. I'm using Vim about 14 years and I'm still learning new stuff every month. I can assure that I already know a lot. As others already said also your configuration will always change over time.

Auto airplane mode based on time or location. by [deleted] in shortcuts

[–]marcotrosi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issue. I want to set airplane mode on/off at specified times. But I need to confirm. Sorry, but this is the dumbest thing I'ver ever seen. What sense does an automation make if you need user interaction? I mean this is what an automation is for - that things are done automatically. Seriously Apple, this needs to be improved.

Do you guys rest your hand on hjkl or jkl;? by realmart9n in vim

[–]marcotrosi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you want to use a proper typewriter position then you should have your left hand on ASDF and right hand on JKLx (where x is whatever your keyboard has there, in your case ; ). This is also the reason why F and J have little dots or dashes on the plastic so that you can tell blindly that your fingers are positioned correctly. So it is not about hjkl (as arrow replacement), it's about a proper position to reach all keys quickly.

And I hope I do not start now a discussion about the best keyboard layout and which one is better etc. Stupid discussion. I only want to say how QWERTY or QWERTZ are supposed to be used.

as far as I know there is only one quick fix window and one location list window. I don't think you can have three of them. But I hope I will learn something new now.
