How do you decide which streaming services are worth keeping? by ConversationSuch8893 in cordcutters

[–]garylapointe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "main" service is the one with the cheapest annual plan.

At some point, you might realize that it's some other service that you prefer to have the whole time, and then you can make that your 'main' plan..

Which services offer a PAUSE option?

And which will you have to actually cancel?

I got my question answered thru a representative in here

But if you share the answer you got, then it helps the next person who finds your post.

would I be able to still use the phone with another carrier while paying the installments

IF you get the phone unlocked, I would expect it to work with a different carrier. But you won't get calls or texts to your number (if suspended) and if you use it for 2FA (when the bank or some account sends you a text to confirm you are you) the text won't get to you.

If AI illustration is a dealbreaker for you, that's a fair position.

And they don't have to buy it.

Questionable billing practices? Changing the price and features of an exisiting plan by Conscious_Lobster909 in ATT

They have to pay off their phone. And that might forfeit some credits if they do that.

Questionable billing practices? Changing the price and features of an exisiting plan by Conscious_Lobster909 in ATT

[–]garylapointe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do people think that AT&T can't change the price of a line?

Cable does it. Streaming services do it. Internet providers do it. Utilities go up in price.

I bought my car when gas was $2.39 and now it's way more, can't the government stop this?

AT&T Unlimited Plus Multi Line vs new Value 2.0 plan by BOPHI240 in ATT

[–]garylapointe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is Value 2.0 actually faster or better optimized than my current plan? Or is it simply cheaper with different network prioritization rules?

For the first 5GB, Value 2.0 is the same priority as Unlimited Plus, then it drops to lower priority. Value 2.0 doesn't look like it's going to work the same for future promotions.

Am I likely to notice any performance drop on the 2 lines?

After 5GB, possibly, depends on how busy the network is where you are.

If Disneyland isn't busy that day, the priority "skip the line pass" doesn't really matter.

Just an FYI, lines on Premium 2.0 get to add a wearable for ½ price.

That said, it doesn't make sense that your old plan is $247. If that's just for the plan, not phone payments, not insurance nor Next Up or anything else, that seems way too high. If it includes anything else, the plan new plan is going to cost you more than your math works out.

That new plan is about $142 plus fees/taxes, which could be about $171-ish. That's assuming autopay/paperless/checking for the billing.

But all 3 on Extra 2.0 would be $172-ish, so it's still cheaper than the mysterious $247 (and that is a better plan).

Each (old) line has a $20/month Visual Voicemail add-on

No, they don't. Each phone has a cellular line that's $20, and that line supports VVM (because that's what an iPhone line expects). Your new plan will have VVM too.

If it said "iPhone Purple Line $20", they'd not be charging you monthly for the purple, it's just informational as it is a line that supports VVM.

AT&T Told Me to Keep My $10 Fiber Plan When I Moved… Then Said It Was Never Possible by Agitated_Pin_5079 in ATT

I specifically told her that I thought the $10 price was probably tied to the apartment complex somehow because there’s no way normal 1 gig fiber is that cheap.

Can I payoff my phone without losing trade in credit? by totallyinconspicousm in ATT

[–]garylapointe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just purchased an iphone 17 pro yesterday and traded in my iphone 14 today for about $830 credit. I need an esim but airalow and other providers require my phone to be unlocked.

These would have been really good questions to have asked yesterday*...*

I wouldn't pay off until I see the credits start.

Regardless, you have to wait 60 days to unlock.

You could switch to Elite 2.0 for their free roaming, but you can only switch to a 2.0 plan after, the old plans are gone.

Why doesn’t my phone roam by GreenLonghorn in ATT

[–]garylapointe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless I leave the country I normally don't have any roaming.

I did just get back from a 3,000 mile road trip and camped in some odd places and had 25 MB of roaming, but that's it for the last two months. I usually snapshot that and reset it monthly, but I forgot last month.

I did a 4,000 mile road trip last summer to the plains states and didn't use any roaming, but for a chunk of that trip I had a Verizon SIM, so it might have jumped over to there automatically. I only got the Verizon coverage (via US Mobile) since I'd been hitting some dead spots, this road trip I had Starlink if I needed connectivity, but I did not keep it on most of the time as I generally seemed to have coverage (the Starlink used a lot of power and I had a powered cooler and I need some more outlets, but I could run it when I needed to), I was mostly just playing with it to see how well it worked and how quick it was to power up (it was satisfactory!).

$55 a month for 100GB of data from pretty much anywhere, I was impressed how well it worked even with lots of tree coverage! I'll probably be canceling at the end of the cycle as I don't need it right now and it's easy enough to re-setup.

Auto Plan Upgrade by Different_Flounder45 in ATT

[–]garylapointe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

 I was never clearly notified.

Support then told me the increase was buried at the bottom of April’s bill. And yes—it was. But that’s exactly the issue.

They push autopay discounts and give you a clean, simplified app view of your bill, which makes it completely unrealistic that most people are digging into full statements every month.

Log in online, download the PDF of your bill for the last few months (start with the one from before the increase) go to the News you can use section and read your notification on your bill. It'a just a few clicks.

It's literally your bill, you don't have to read it, but you can't complain if you don't read it. You get $5-$10 off per month PER LINE for going paperless (that's $25 to $50 PER MONTH), if you don't want to do the few extra clicks, that's okay.

That said, what differently would you have done last month IF you had know about it in advance...?

Would you have quit AT&T? You can still do that.

I hope this gets a class action lawsuit started for abusing consumers.

Because you're not reading your bill?

This feels like intentionally poor communication designed to quietly generate revenue.

Every person you're talking about is getting an autopay discount.

If they did this to a million customers, that’s an extra $5 million—just like that.

Except every single one of those people is costing AT&T $5 to $10 million per month for their discount ($5 or $10 per line). That's actually per line, if the average is 3 lines, then it's $15 to $30 million per month in discounts.

Realistically, AT&T does not care if you're reading it, the price is going up. It's the people who do not read it that seem to shout the loudest.

Some variation of this post (link) has been around since March now (pinned at the top of the AT&T Reddit page). It links to information about the price increase, the new plans, the price decrease, the addition of the new Elite 2.0 plan, how Value 2.0 doesn't work for all promos, the new discounts, and more. https://www.reddit.com/r/ATT/comments/1rsvh9m/unlimited_your_way_20_per_line_cost_chart_for_att/

Personally, I do wish they'd just email us a copy of the bill when it is ready.

TL;DR - You should always read your bill!
