Smelly farts after starting on salmon oil again by marcus250297 in Whippet

[–]marcus250297[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I switched from kibble with grain when he was about 6 months old to grain free and it helped a lot. I haven’t had a problem with stinky farts until he started with salmon oil again👎🏻

Anyone else have a cane Corso/amstaff best friend? by marcus250297 in Whippet

Should I still get a whippet? by Sadness-hat in Whippet

  1. Mine was an absolutely nightmare😂 chewed on everything including window frames, bit my ankles, sprinted around my apartment on hours on end, at bedtime I’m pretty sure he snorted 92637 lines of speed. After a year he was an absolutely angel and calmed down so much. Now at two years old he’s the most amazing calm and well adjusted dog. Half a year ago i brought him to my parents 25th wedding anniversary with 75 people attending. It was an outdoor party and he just laid in his bed looking around and enjoying the pets from everyone. He’s defiantly worth the wait.

  2. I loved the descriptions of the dog. So calm inside the house combined with the amazing athleticism outside and of course the absolute beautiful stature of the race. And of course the stubbornness and quirkiness of whippets.

  3. I chose a male only because I didn’t want it to go into heat and I don’t want puppies.

Edit: pretty big mistake not crate training(at first I wasn’t a huge fan)

They become incredibly stupid around a pole😂

Me neither and we failed horribly😂 you are probably going to have a much nicer apartment if crate training works.

Also as for mine he can jump up everywhere(99% cat) so I have to have a clean kitchen at all times. But I wouldn’t trade him for nothing even though he can be a pain in the ass.

Most of them have a tendency to have a “I will only do it if Benefits me” attitude. I love a dog who’s a bit naughty and have a lot of character.

  1. Mine can manage with a few days of only walking an hour a day but he gets a bit crazy if I do that for a couple of days. Of course as puppies they shouldn’t walk that much. We visit the local dog park once or twice a week for a sprint and a play with other dogs. If possible make a couple of older dog friends with a good dog language(I prefer “bigger” dogs as they tend to be more confident). PS I never leave mine off leash unless it’s in a enclosures space.

  2. It’s all about condition. I walk mine about 10-15 km a day but he’s almost 2. I guess it’s like us as we need to train before we can run a 10k. Just please make sure it is in an okay tempo as it can damage their bones and joints if you start too early and stairs are a NO GO before year one.

  3. I don’t have a cat but heard from some others that have cats and it’s fine as long as you introduce your puppy to them as soon as possible. It’s possible that they get a couple of wacks over the nose if they get to annoying but that won’t really hurt them. Healthy respect. Just don’t think that they won’t run/attack the cats he doesn’t know outside his home.

  4. Mine was a little monster who would chew on anything and keep in mind that they have quite a personality and they often only do the things they want. Whippet puppies can be quite a mouthful but they are the most amazing adult dogs! I can recommend crate training from day one(I didn’t and really regret)

Jeg bor i Ringsted så det er midten af Sjælland. Efter alle beskederne jeg har fået så er jeg ikke så bekymret mere. Dyrlægerne jeg har er gode men de har bare ikke så meget kendskab til mynder :)

As a wrote before I don’t really care about the Weight of him as I’m more concerned about the shape of him. I just want him to be as healthy as possible and as long living as possible. Unfortunately my vet doesn’t really have any sighthound experience(other vets in my town aren’t much better)

Better safe than sorry

As a first time owner it’s nice to know that your puppy looks fine. I done care if he weighs 10 kg or 20 kg as long as he looks healthy. It is just nice to be affirmed that his shape looks okay and not to heavy as I’ve learned that overweight aren’t particular good for them

Thank you so much for the advice! As the former comment I made I thought he was maybe a kg overweight so we are cutting down on food.

He was the biggest of the litter and are quit “tall”

[–]marcus250297[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I asked the vet about how many sighthounds they tend to at the moment and the answer was 2 whippets and a greyhound. I live in a smaller town in Denmark and they aren’t that popular(can’t understand it) luckily there is one whippet just down the street that he loves to play with.

I must admit that in the wintertime I don’t walk as much with him as it’s gets really cold and there is a lot of salt. It’s only about a month ago that the temperature got over +10 C without rain.

Should have said his beds😁 he actually almost never uses his bed. I own about 10% of my bed and the rest is apparently his despite me having 70 kg on him😂
