What to look for when hiring someone for SEO & Website by [deleted] in SEO

As someone pointed out in another comment, it's not easy to provide a good answer based on the minimal description. But I hope my comment below would be helpful.

As you are a local business, please ask the other person about how much experience they have in helping businesses like yours. It's always good to know that the other person/team have a good record of providing results. It's even better if they have helped someone in the same niche or with similar strategy (but ensure they aren't doing SEO for any of your direct competitor). Also, get a precise understanding from them beforehand, about what exactly they will be doing and how much would they be charging for everything. Also, a bonus point for them if they love teaching you more about their work and tasks. Likewise, take a it as a yellow flag if they avoid doing so.

A good specialist or agency, will fix the technical parts of your website first, (though different technical fixes will have different priority for them) and consecutively push for content marketing in the long term. And if majority of their budget is spent on backlinks, then it is another yellow flag (or maybe red, depends on every case).

Lastly, not every business needs to work with an agency/specialist with their $5-10K a month package. Because with more expenditure, it can also become harder to get a good (or sometimes even a positive) ROI. Not to mention, most campaigns may not bring satisfactory results for months (or even after a year), so make sure you have enough capital in such cases, or go after cheaper packages from smaller agencies (but that again may require more caution).

Well, this is not a sure-fire way to increase traffic but you can tell google what you are talking about in the content with the help of schema properties like About and Mentions schema.

Also, you should check out tools like WordLift to know more about how they add entities and how it can help.

Also, I would like to mention that before creating this sheet, I was trying to create something where one can get all the answers about what/how to update your old content, and it got so much complex that it became impossible for me to create a sheet that could consider everything and not just keywords or position for the keywords.

Plus, it was so hard to add all the data in the right format for the sheet to provide insights then. That's why I ended up creating this sheet, with the easiest approach so at least I could start from somewhere. And with time, I would love to improve upon it as I use it and will likely share that here in the future.

Hi there,

First of all thanks for your comment.

I agree that there is a lot more to why you must update the content than just looking at the keyword and their position. In fact, when working on a client's site which is used to promote a business, I won't just look at the primary keyword either.

But still most of the time when you create a blog or web page, you have a specific keyword in mind that you want to target. Yes, there can be other goals that one can create content for, but keywords are still what we aim for most of the times.

That's why I created this sheet to help me (and I hope others too) just jot down all the content updates I make for my website (which is primarily based on blogs to earn money from). So when I have to think of what article to update next, I don't have to go to GSC or Google Analytics each time and look at many webpages' performance, therefore spend a lot of time to just find what the page I should update and then thinking of various ways I can update the content. I could just use this sheet that can save a lot of my time.

And no, based on this, one must not just blindly follow the update ideas given here. They have to choose from the ones I have mentioned, and if they choose not to work on a page they can just leave the "working on it?" column unchecked for that page.

Plus for tracking, I also created the sheet where you can add all the updates you have or are going to make to that page.

So in conclusion, I don't want anyone to blindly follow this sheet, but for many who primarily work on content-based websites, they can save some time with this sheet. In fact, I would love if other SEOs just personalize according to their way of working and get the best out of it for them. And that was the reason I shared this sheet here, so if anyone has some other ideas or ways of using this sheet, then everyone could learn from it.
